Orion shakes his head. "I think the past is important. I guess we have to learn from it. But we should focus on the present," he says, disagreeing with Jora's mother for the first time. She sighed and he glanced at her worriedly. "What's wrong? You sighed," he said, wondering what was on her mind. What if she didn't go to this school? Where would that put me? Probably talking to someone without being able to tell them all my problems. Maybe she's the only person who will listen to me. He also had a silly fear that she would leave for some reason. He wants to hug her for the millionth time. Phoenixes must have some magical power to make people feel better.

Jora looked at him. "Hum? Oh, nothing. I was just, um, thinking of what paints I'd need to paint the castle." She said lying a little hoping it wasn't that obvious she was. She fiddled with her sleeve on her lap again thinking of what to say to his comment before his question. "Well, I said that's what she told me, and I'm the one who consistently has those flashbacks...." She said looking down at her lap again thinking of when her mother had told her that. Jora was crying and hugging her legs in the barn, her mother had heard her when she walked past. She went in and put her arms around her daughter and whispered into her ears.

"She does have a point. i just think we also have to learn from the past, not just forget it. But I guess you probably want to forget it, huh?" Orion said. What could she even learn from her past? She just got bullied her whole life. There has to be less painful ways to learn. He pulled Jora's drawing off the one of he drew gently. He tapped the paper. "I guess I drew this to remind myself, but I can easily put it away and forget about it. I think you have to balance it out," He took his drawing, and slid it back into his sketchbook. "I don't think I need that drawing anymore though...." he says, not explaining why. He doubts he will look at that drawing again anytime soon. He then tapped Jora's drawing that she ahd put over his. "That's something we want to remember,"

Jora was getting a little upset that Orion kept shooting down everything that she ever believed. She just sat there, her face blank and turned down a little. She was still listening to what he was saying and smiled a little when he tapped her drawing. She shook her head. "But it hasn't happened yet, how can we remember it?" She asked joking a little, still slightly wondering why he kept saying that things need to be remembered as lessons. What were her's supposed to be? Let people push you around because they can? She realized she hadn't really be paying attention to what he said just then. Yes she wish she could forget everything about her past even if it meant her drawing, too.

"Listen, all I'm saying is that your past can teach you something. And your past, well it can teach you something too. I'm not saying you should have had to learn it that way, but it does teach you one thing: People out there do care for you, your mom and dad, and probably most of the people at this school if you got to know them. You just have to find them. And the people at the village? Forget about them," Orion said, realizing he had probably seemed pretty harsh to her before. He was asking her to remember what she wanted to forget. "As for me, I guess my lesson is the kind you find on posters all over the place, but takes a long time to actually learn for yourself. I know it sounds rather cheesy, like something you put on a poster as I said, but I think it's to be yourself," Orion continued, hoping he didn't sound like he thought he was all knowledgable. He quickly added, "But that's just what I think."

Jora didn't know what to think. Her life wasn't a great one, she couldn't think of very much that made it important. She didn't like talking about this, it wasn't helping and she didn't know what to say most of the time. She looked back out the window and down at her sketchbook. She jut stared at the drawing of her parents thinking of what her mother might tell her to say. "Well, being yourself is always good..." The other kids at her village were always themselves. She couldn't help adding to herself.

Orion finally noticed Jora's discomfort, and realized what he had been saying. I'm not helping this at all. Everytime I try to make it better, I just make it more painful for her. And I can't really change the subject now. "I'm not really good at conversations if you hadn't noticed," he said, trying to lighten things up and turn the topic back to him. He picked up the picture Jora had drawn for him and inspected it. "What time? I mean, what time should we meet to see the sunset? I don't want to miss it and I have no idea when it starts," he said. I'm getting sorta better at conversations.

Jora smiled a little when he said he wasn't good at talking. She wouldn't know if she was because she never really talked to anyone before. She looked up a little when he asked about the sunset. "Well, it's near the end of summer so I'd wait till after dinner." She thought of the outlay of the valley. "And the best place to see it would be the top of the castle. So, I'll meet you up there after supper...." She cut off a little trying to think of how she'd get up there. She didn't want to fly but wasn't sure there was a way for her to climb to it from her room's window. She bit her bottom lip in thought.

"You know, if you don't want everyone to see you in your monster form yet, I could give you a ride to the tower...." he said, wondering if that was why she had trailed off. He half-hoped she would fly up on her own because he wanted to prove to her that no one her would tease her. Then again, if he was wrong..... It's only her first day. She doesn't have to do it yet. Besides, I bet she hasn't flown in a while, and I have something I want to show her... how to fly like a chinese dragon. He twisted the pencil in his hands. It was regular led, but the covering was a marble pattern with all the different shades of blue.
