Victoria huddled near the window, far away from the boy that she had apparently hurt. Her knees were pulled to her chest, and she bit her tongue so hard that she drew blood which just added to the already not-so-good taste in her mouth. She kept swallowing, wishing she had some gum as the bus jerked towards the looming building

Hatter growled angrily but did not say anything back, trying to hold back his anger he turned to Victoria. Seeing how she was sitting he was confused, had he hurt her in some way? No, she was just stressed, Hatter concluded silently as he stared at her, what would make her feel better? Taking out a teddy bear he threw it at her, it landed right next to her and hit her leg.

Trisha nodded off, expression somehow still cold as she fell to a sleepy haze. She leaned on the back of the seat with her head back and her flowing black hair coming out from her braid.

Victoria just about jumped out of her skin and had to out a hand over her mouth to muffle the scream. She saw the teddy bear and was extremely confused and looked around. Everybody seemed to be minding their own except for the boy that she felt she had hurt. She picked up the bear, thanking the boy silently before hugging it to her chest

Hatter watched the events unfold in front of him and couldn't help but smile for the first time in a month.
"You know, I used to have a friend that was like you," He said feeling sadness return to his eyes as he gave her a half hearted smile, "The teddy bear always used to calm her down, she even called it A Moment Of Peace."

"Oh. I'm sorry. Do you want it back? I'm sure it's special to you..." Her eyebrows furrowed, not wanting to take anything from anyone. She offered it back to him. She couldn't help her curiosity, though. "What happened to her?" She whispered. "Your friend?"

"Keep it," He said quickly, he didn't need it anyways, it was his job to stay strong, "I don't need it as much as you do."
The next question caught him off guard though, what had happened to her? He felt so much pain fill him he thought he was drowning, the memories rushed in his head and he just froze for a moment, shock and grief showing on his face.
Then he got himself under control and he hid all the emotions, hiding them deep down below like he always did, "She died, she drowned," even saying it made he feel like he just got stabbed in the heart, "My name is Hatter, you are?"

"Victoria," she whispered, looking down at the bear. She could see that it had been in so many memories, see that it was cherished. "And I'm sorry. About your friend. I shouldn't have asked."

As the bus continued to get closer, they could make out some of the details that the news crews had left out. Carved into the cold stone were vast sculptures designed to inspire fear into anybody who saw them--tortured statues, each five meters tall, showing prisoners on the gibbets, hanging from ropes, on guillotines, pleading to executioners, being dragged from loved ones, and, worst of all, a giant head on each corner impaled on a spike. The dead faces watched them, and if Victoria didn't know better, she could have sworn their expressions were of pity, their sorrowful eyes wet from the gentle rain that fell.
"Doesn't look so bad," said one of the boys on the bus, his quivering voice betraying his true feelings.
"Well, that ain't the half of it, boyo," replied one of the guards, tapping his shotgun on the window. "That there if Furnace's better side. You know where you're going." He lowered his weapon so it was pointing at the floor. "Down."
Victoria began to tremble at the thought of being trapped underground, subconsciously hugging the bear close to her heart, as if it was a buoy in an ocean
