He was smirking. "You hate the dark?" His smirk faded. "You know you could've just told me that you couldn't do the dare, ya know."

"Yeah no one does that. I mean if you don't take the dare you're made fun of for the next year." She rolled her eyes and slowly pulled her arms away to place them on her hips. "And I thought there would be working flashlights."

"Well, your flashlight was working. So technically, there was, by not anymore. And for the record, I did bring my phone. I always carry around a fake for pranking and these kind of situations." He said, pulling out his phone and turned the flashlight on, but it didn't work.

"Wow. That helps. A lot." The sarcasm couldn't hide her obvious fear though. "It's too dark... When they find our dead bodies they'll write a book about us called 'The Universe Hates Kestrel and Dustin' ."

"Okay...should we just chill here until morning, or...?"

She sighed, dropping down onto the ground dramatically. She threw a hand up to her head. "We have no choice- it's either that or getting lost. So might as well stay here."

"Well we're already lost though, so its either this or getting more lost with the small chance of fi din the camp again." He said, sitting down on a log

She nodded, wrapping her arms around herself again as she shivered from the cold. She glanced down at the forest floor, squeezing her eyes shut in an attempt to ignore the surrounding darkness. "Sorry about being such a mess- the dark just scares me after... nevermind."

"Its fine, but tell me the story," he said, offering her his jacket

She sighed, lifting her head up to look him in the eyes. "I would tell you. But everytime I tell someone it doesn't help them understand. Instead they just pity me and that's not what I want."
