They can be found on pets that you find in the wild and subsequently caught with Traps. You can also collect Essences and generate pets with the new Genes. Or you can obtain Genetic Mutators and mutate caught pets with the new Genes.

No, not for this Festival. Due to the MegaZone, the new species, new traits for the MegaZone, and artwork required for this Festival... there just wasn't enough time available to do as many Genes/Mutations as other Festivals.
