Unlike Ash, iron doesn't burn her, meaning that it wouldn't automatically cauterize the wound. Meaning that those things had been burning her skin, doubling the pain constantly, for a very long while.

Yeah. And those things were scarily close to her eye. If those things had any way, shape, or form of expanding, they could've ruined her eyesight. Permanently.
