As she heard him, her face paled. She realized her son had brought a killer into the house and she had brought them right back.

Ray puts their head in their arms and rests them on the table as they shut their eyes. Ray was waiting for her to shoo them out of the house, shout, scream, say something, call for help, get someone to arrest them, something! If someone decided to kill them right now, Ray wouldn't be complaining; they had lived longer than they should have already, and made too many mistakes during that time. Death didn't seem like such a punishment now that Ray wanted it.

All that happened was that she dropped her bowl and stumbled away. She fell, stood and then raced to Jacks' room, yelling at her son ; wich brought Jack out, as teary faced as he was. She yelled at him for not knowing better than to do his job right and arrest a killer, let alone of his friend.

Jack said nothing as his mother yelled, then he tried to explain once she stopped. But she wouldn't hear it, just used her apron to slap his face and yelled at them both to get out of her home.

Ray had tried to clean up the mess of the dropped bowl when Bethany had stumbled away. He mumbles an apology to Bethany as he left and then one to Jack when the two get out of the house.

Jack didn't reply, knowing now his mother wouldn't want to see him for a long while. He leaned against the wall of the house, hands covering his face.

Ray attempts to cheer Jack up with a hug. He had just succeeded in making Jack's life worse. He should have just walked out when he had the ability to. Now he felt like he had to fix everything for Jack. But he couldn't do that because Jack didn't like him and he would probably make things worse for Jack, not better.

Jack was still a moment until finally he just broke, crumbling in Rays arms.

Ray wasn't able to keep Jack's weight completely and he slowly sank down to the floor, holding Jack and promising him it would be ok. He runs a hand through Jack's hair and slowly rocks from side to side, humming the song quietly. He would be here for Jack while he still could be.

Jack sobbed and sobbed, more than a guy like him seemed to be able to. He seemed like someone that could take the weight of the world and still handle his own problems with a smile. he took care of people and was trustworthy. But this ... this was something no one had ever seen. A broken part of him that had only showed when his father had died.

Or when his best friend died, like in this situation. Ray lets Jack cry, holding him close and not letting go. He gently strokes Jack's hair as he cradles him. He didn't want to leave Jack, ever, and the longer Ray stayed with Jack, the more Ray wanted to stay with him for forever and never let go of him. But if Ray went away, hopefully Jack's problems would as well.
