Out of the blue, she asked, "What was it like? Going to school?"

He glanced to her, pushing his glasses up his nose a bit. "It was...interesting. The work is what pounds the back bone I'll say but it's worth it with extra activities." He didn't seem to go near any topic of other kids at school or relations with teachers.

She had grown up at the camp, and had only seen it on TV. "Is it really like that? With homecoming and proms and stuff?" Of course she asks about the dances. Of course.

He nods. "Yes, all the popular ones go to them. Often they are for the older grades, but the girls go around and for a while reject dates until they get the one they want. I've seen the system, quite confusing. But there's music, spiked drinks and food you shouldn't eat unless you pleasure in indigestion. And dances that are far to close for comfort of any human body."

"Did you ever go to one?"

This made him start to fidgit with that bracelet of his. "N-no...you usually go when your asked by a date..."

"Well...why didn't you go?" She didn't pick up he hadn't been asked before

He shook his head. "I've never...been asked for a date." His voice was soft, as if to hide any emotion under it.

She was silent for a moment, looking at him. "Seriously?"

He quickly nodded, he didn't want to talk about his status at school or anywhere else. His teal eyes seemed a little frantic, like a kitty in a corner. But this kitty wouldn't hiss, this kitty would hide for stinkin dear life.
