Mom snatched the forgotten washrag and began wiping the blood off her face. "Im sorry if I frightened you, but Ill be fine. Its only blood, nothing serious. Besides, we cant afford a big doctors bill." She abruptly straightened and looked around the room. "Wheres your brother?" Ethan was gone.

"Uh... He was just here?" She looked around also. "Ethan?" She called his name. She was still holding the rabbit btw.

No response.

Mom's protests were wasted Dad got home. He took one look at her pale, bandaged face, threw a fit, and insisted they go to the hospital. Luke can be stubbornly persistent when he needs to be, and Mom eventually buckled under the pressure. She was still calling out instructions to Amelia--take care of Ethan, dont let him stay up too late, theres frozen pizza in the fridge--as Luke bundled her into his battered Ford and roared off down the driveway.

Amelia sighed when they left.
"Ethan where are you..." She asked out loud, she went into the living room.

Footsteps padded over the floor. Ethan was in the doorway, staring at her. He looked strange without the rabbit in his arms. "Im hungry," he announced. "Cook me something."

She nodded.
"Where did you go? I was worried for a second..." She asked him.

His eyes narrowed, and his lips curled back from his teeth. For just a moment, it looked like they were jagged and sharp. "Im hungry now," he growled, taking a step forward. Almost immediately, his face smoothed out again, his eyes enormous and pleading. "Please, Lia?" he whined. "Please? Im so hungry." He pouted, and his voice turned menacing. "Mommy didnt make me food, either."

"Uh- Alright. I'll make a pizza..." She said a little shaky, heading back into the kitchen.

Ethan waited impatiently.

She got to the freezer and then took the pizza out. Before she headed to pre heat the oven she looked over to Ethan.
