Jack gingerly pushed up the pant leg and lifted Rays leg. "Were?"

Ray hums softly and pulls their leg back, "I'll be fine."

Jack sighed, letting them, and stood again.

Ray stands as well, trying to keep their leg from giving out again. They head to the kitchen to see if they can help Jack's mother. They give Jack another thank you as well.

Jack simply nods, now sitting on the couch with his face in his hands.

Jack's mother was cooking some meat and vegetables as she had the milk warming. She was doing both carefully at the same time.

Ray asks how they could help her as they enter the kitchen. They didn't realize Jack was at the couch still.

She smiled to them. "Oh, that would be wonderful dear. Could you make sure the milk doesn't boil?"

"Can do." Ray chirps, cheerfully doing the job she asked them to do. After a while they feel a little lonely because Jack wasn't with them so they told Jack's mother they were going to go see how Jack was doing. They headed to the living room and went to sit by Jack, giving him a small hug in greeting.

Jack's mother nodded.

Jack was still as he had been, but he looked away from Ray and turned so his back was mostly to them. His eyes were teary and sad.

Ray gave Jack a hug from behind, resting their head on his shoulder. "I'm so sorry. I... I can explain? What happened with the guards..."
