When Soot was gone Blaze walked out of his hiding place and placed the squirrel at Blue's paws.
"I thought you might be hungry," Blaze barked nervously.

Soot made it back to camp, noting Blister and Burn as they sat in the corner eating. They better have hunted that for themselves, he thought. Having two newcomers steal from a gamma was not going to be tolerated, no matter how powerful they were.

Blue looked down at the pup. She was a little taken aback as Blaze had always seemed to dislike her. She smiled at him but shook her head no. I don't need it Blaze. Why don't we head back to camp? She said. She seemed strangely happy as she began to walk back.

Blaze's tail drooped and he turned and walked back to camp with the squirrel.

Soot made his way to the prey pile where the pack kept small food such as rabbits and squirrels. He took a rabbit for himself and leaped on top of his den, settling comfortably on the warm rock. While it wasn't quite as tall and big as the Alpha's den, he preferred the cozy space of it. The closed in corners made him feel protected.

Soot slid down until he was laying on the rock. The muscular beta watched the camp activity, wondering when Newmoon would be back with the pups. Maybe Newmoon had already returned and was talking to Hekera right now. He chowed down on his rabbit, still thinking.

Blue picked Blaze up by the scruff and turned him around so he was facing her. She then lied down so her eyes were the same level as his. What is wrong? she asked again.
