It didn't do that great of job explaining the miraculous, so it's a piece of jewelry, the kwamis are these very tiny creatures that, similar to a genie, has to do what its owner asks of it. when told "Transform me" they will go into the miraculous item, and transform the wearer into their superhero form, which will give them special abilities (Such as invincible suits, super jumps, and a power unique to each miraculous)
