Yay, I'm excited for all the Thanksgiving-related fun, as I missed Canadian Thanksgiving this year, having just moved over to the UK.
My family tradition is to get together in the late afternoon and spend time talking with each other about the year and more recent events. All the kids play together in the basement, and everyone enjoys some appetizers and refreshments. My dad, who has spent the last few days preparing to cook a massive turkey, is adding to the conversation in between running in and out of the kitchen to make sure everything is cooking at the right time. The other relatives have brought over various side dishes, like my grandma's candied yams, homemade pickles, homemade cranberry sauce, cabbage rolls, etc. most of which just need to be warmed up -- so they help with timing everything right. It sort of became my dad's job to do the bird because he is by far the best cook when it comes to large cuts of meat. It's never dry or overcooked, and he carves it up to look like a beautiful centerpiece on the table. It almost looks like the bird just lost all of its bones all of a sudden and spontaneously divided its breasts and thighs into perfect pieces, falling down to a gorgeous flat display on a serving plate. I wish I had a photo to share -- it's really rather impressive. Then we all gather around the table, my one religious grandma says grace while the rest of us eye our food excitedly, and we eat! Sometimes my other grandpa forgets about grace and starts stuffing his face beforehand, while my grandma (not his wife -- different sides of the family) gives him side-eye. After dinner, when we're so stuffed we can't possibly eat any more, we take a break and chat for a while longer, many of the adults having coffee or tea. Then a huge dessert spread comes out. Usually two pies plus another couple of baked goods courtesy of my grandma, who loves baking. My brother and I usually make a dish, too. So we stuff ourselves again, then divide up the leftovers and send everyone home with some for meals later in the week. It's pretty grand.

Yay,Thanksgiving!
So,my family has this weird tradition that EVERYONE brings something!Around the afternoon is when we usually start the feast. We all get dressed on our best clothes and go to who ever is hosting this year(we take turns hosting)We set up a BIG table for everyone. For the first 2 hours or so,we get time to talk with our relatives that we haven't seen in a while. Then we all get settled in a seat and wait for everyone to sit.We say our prayers and thank everyone for the food they bring. Then we dig in!We have the BEST food there! We have, mash potatoes, chicken, salad, gravy, rice, beans, enchiladas, tamales,TURKEY,and all kinds of mexican food!
Its really good. Then we hold our annual gift trade! We all bring a good gift for the person we got.We write out names on a piece of paper and put it in a hat, then we draw out another piece of paper which has someone's name on it and we bring that person a gift! Its really fun!

Well, every thanksgiving, I get up in the morning, and leave to run a 4-mile race called 'The Turkey Trot' with some of my family. Then when I get home, my cousins an aunts and uncles and grandma, and other people arrive at my house. We sit and chat until the food is ready, and we eat around 1:00. It is such a great feast, with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, squash, cranberry sauce, corn dish, buttered buns, and more! After lunch my cousins and I all go down to the basement and hang out, and watch a movie. Then after a while we get called up for pie. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving this year!!!

I have a really tiny family, and so we all get dressed up, and go to my grandma's house. There is my mother, father, sister, and Grandma. That is all my family on this island. My dad cooks the turkey (one of like 7 my mom gets for free at the grocery store with coupons), while my mom mashes the mashed potatoes (purple, orange, and white) We open the cranberry sauce, and pour it out onto a pretty plate, because my grandma is uber old fashioned, and she has a lot of beautiful plates and glasses. We have rolls, and my mom makes gravy using the giblets. SO MUCH FOOD!!!!! When all the food is ready, the five of us sit down at the table, and say what we are thankful for. after we have finished, we get to nom! When we are ready to explode from too much delicious food, then the pies are brought out. We have raisin, apple, and pumpkin. My family loves to cook.
P.S. Please ping me!
