You're not dumb, the game just takes time to learn. :)

You have to go to the Trade area, then click on the Currency Exchange. Where it says, 'Search For' you need to change diamonds to gold. On the last page there should be an exchange up from me for 1 gold that would cost you 125 diamonds. You would need to buy that gold piece. (So you would get the gold piece, and I would get the diamonds.)
