With the Monsters, their shard is supposed to be, most commonly a normal animal but when they fuse is when they become a monster. You can keep the species but the shard and the monster you become when you fuse need to be different like having a horse soul shard and fusing to become a centaur. And the emissary of peace is just a spokes person for others of the same type of monster that are trying to show that the monsters aren't actually monsters. And you are accepted.
