I've seen this suggested so many times, and I still hope we'll eventually get it.
So far as "not breaking the world with another influx of easy gold" goes, though...
Scales.
Scales means pet dyes; pet dyes support projects.
Giving us another way to get dyes besides nurturing for hours on end means people can turn their mass-breeding dishwater messes that no one finds appealing into something that's actually worth having.
Less dishwaters flooding the pet economy?
Sounds like a win in my book.

I like the idea of scales instead of gold from this NPC. I don't spend hours nurturing, so scales are a bit hard to come by for me lol.

ooo, I actually like the idea of scales better. I've been needing dyes but to put it simply I have zero time to waste just nurturing sylesti, even with the new update.
