Its the age, the reason, and the other. They got their powers when the Besparis went overhead, they didn't just stumble upon them, and they can all control their powers.

Reason mean, what were they doing before the Besparis that gave them the powers? Like Yang is light, so I made her changing a light bulb, Garrett was teleportation so he was in a door way. Like shapeshifting, she was trying on a costume, she was playing with her dog, something like that.

No no, it was the last thing they did before they went to sleep that night, and they didn't find out the powers until the next morning, AND almost everyones parents died.

You improved, but you are not really getting it. If you had the dog, it would be in the pets part and I feel walking your dog would be controlling dogs/wolves/foxes.

Ok my pet died with my family.... so that's why I won't have a pet and I'm fine if I can change into a dog instead...
