I understand what you're saying, and I agree to an extent, been trying to tweak Jade Dreams a little to look a bit less black hole-y, but not too much luck so far unless I change the colour scheme a bit ^^

Yeah I get that, black looks good with almost any colour. I would suggest you use a very dark blue *almost black. It looks just like black but keeps all the details. The only thing is that when breeding with lighter coloured pets you will end up with blue instead of grey.

At least that way you don't have to change any of the other colours and can keep the general look the same.

Breeding to other pets isn't a problem, as it's going to be a project with max stats, so it theoretically should be the same colours, and possibly different traits, so thanks for the advice, I'll try that! (or maybe a dark sea green/teal to fit with the theme)

Yep! It's a strategy i use all the time. Blue looks the closest to black but changing the hue can change the whole look to be warmer by using brown or cool by using blue. Those are the two colours that I recommend when substituting for black they just end up looking the best (this is all from experience)
