Rigil sat next to her. "So much for training I guess." He sighed looking at his charred feathers. "At least we didn't die."

Shimmer landed next to them. "What are they doing in our territory?! In the middle of the day nonetheless? We need to tell the higher ups about this!"

"Yeah, I think we should be getting back to the tree now. She needs to get to the infirmary," she said pointing to Sky,"And we need to tell the leaders about this."

"I'll carry her." Rigil said picking Sky up with a better grip this time. He slowly flew in the direction of the tree.

Shimmer was angry. "How could they have the nerve! I mean are they not afraid of us? And why was it only us and none of the other groups?"

Feather shrugged,"Who knows? Maybe they are afraid of us and wanted to take us while we were few in numbers," she said.

(I have read the whole series and the owls of gahoole are mixed into it.)

"I don't know, that's a question for the higher ups." Rigil said panting as he flew. "The sooner we get there the sooner we can ask."

Shimmer nodded. "I just don't get it though. Why us? Why kill us? We are just orphans that can't even pick up coals yet."

"But we can pick up flaming sticks, how hard can coals be? Who knows 'Why us?' there might be something special about us," she said in response. The tree was coming into view.

"Maybe the higher ups will know so why don't you stop chirping for a while?" Rigil snapped as he struggled to carry Sky.

Shimmer glared at him but kept her mouth closed as they neared the tree.

Feather flew closer and helped Rigil carry Sky as they landed at the tree.

"Thanks." Rigil panted as some nest maids carried Sky away. "We should go talk to the higher ups now." He said taking off and flying up to the grand hollow in the tree. He landed and walked forward. There in the middle of the the hollow sat Sirius and his mate Capella. Rigil felt his feathers drop as he looked at the two in all their beauty. He spread his wings and flew up to the speaking perch and waited for his fellows to follow.

Shimmer flew up and landed next to him still deep in thought.

Feather spread her wings and followed Rigil and Shimmer. She was awed by the beauty of Sirius and Capella. She had never seen them before and the beauty was enchanting.
