Yep it does. That's why prices for items at the beginning of the event are way higher than later on.

I remember in the Winter Festival 2013-2014, there was this Back item called Swirling Snow (it's on the broker atm). It was REALLY pretty, and at the time the first person got it from the boss as a dropped item, it was about 100k per item in the broker.

With each successive rounds of the boss coming up and being defeated, more Swirling Snows were dropped, to the point that it went down to 5k-20k per item.
If you check the broker, it's from 29k-35k even now. And in the past 7 days, someone managed to buy one for 10k. And it's still a really pretty item.

I remember that I wrote an article for Sylestia's community-led newsletter of sorts, and in that article that was aimed towards festivals, the best profit is to sell your items as early as you can, and wait until the event drones on for several days to start buying stuff that you don't have.

Because there will be much demand and less supply at the beginning, and later on, when everyone else has farmed in the zone for enough items (and extras), there will be less demand, but more supply. c:

Is it possible to wait for the price to drop and sort of stock up on the item for after the festival ends and it is no longer available, in hopes that the price will rise? Or is "re-selling" frowned upon on here?

I've seen it happen, and never seen it frowned upon. ^^
(At best, users will either try to negotiate with you, or tell you what the price they thought it was before, if you sell it on the forum for example.)

Often, the items that have the most extras (you'll notice that over the festivals, they're the items with the blue border/text in their name, which means they're "rare") stay at a usual rate of 5k a piece. Most people generally hoard them and use them as giveaways to newbies. (That's what I'd like to think aha)

The more profitable items to hold onto are the purple (epic) or orange (legendary) items that you find, and the items that cost a lot of holiday currency from the holiday shop (you'll see in the festival that there's a shop for these items). The items that you don't get a hold of yourself or are hard to get from monster drops tend to be the more sought-after ones.

Awesome, thanks for the advice!
I had always wondering what the color borders meant XD

You'd be surprised. You may get lucky and get something awesome that is worth a lot of gold.
Also, you are not guarantied anything on this site- you have to do some searching for doubles.

So if I spend all day exploring, I should be able to find good festival items, in theory?

Erm, partly.

Some of it has to do with how long you play, and some of it has to do with luck.

You'll often see people be sad about not getting a certain item after so many times of defeating an enemy. x: Or not running into a certain sought-after pet after hours of running around in the zone.

You can also see the opposite, where people announce what they run into. (but then it sometimes takes luck to catch a pet, in the case that a sought-after pet flees when you try to catch it)

Luck tends to be wished for during festivals. It might play out that you may not find anything worthwhile for the first few hours you play, or maybe you will find something. ;w; It varies.

In my experience, the community here is so small that reselling like this, something I've loved to do on other sites and which has worked very nicely for me to build up funds, can't be relied upon. Things just don't increase in value without... I dunno, I would suppose without a lot of new players coming in who haven't received the event items and who would be able to build up their own funds to pay for it, would be my guess as to why. Also, event items tend to get re-released in later festivals, which of course diminishes the potential for rising value.

And also soon some monthly, paid-for-with-currency-you-get-from-real-world-money items (that in other sites tend to be a very reliable source of increasing value) will get re-released (see here), so we can't really depend on that either.

It's possible to make profit off reselling items, but more like once in a while. To do it as a way to completely fund your character, or because you just like it and want it to be one of your main focuses on the site, will probably not be feasible right now.

Hmmm I never thought about the limited amount of players but you make an excellent point! Guess I'll just keep relying on missions :]

Yeah. Just fight the bosses every time they spawn. That's where the good drops are.
