I don't know, Scotland, maybe? I feel like there are a lot of castles there xD. That sounds interesting! And either way is fine with me.

Doors that open a story-up to lead to the floor below with no rail or stairway down,
Cabinets that are a door to the outside,
Doors that open one way but automatically lock behind you (which was a technological miracle in its time even if they are standard now)
Chimneys as the only entrance to a bedroom.
Windows as part of walls (again, this was unthinkable way back when).
Doors that are just part of the wall and not really doors.
Doors that open into doors that open to a window which is your entrance to the kitchen.
