Brooks looks to where the footsteps are coming from, not sure who would be approaching him and ready for... he doesn't know what he is ready for, so perhaps he is not ready at all.

Aliyah, satisfied that she's got everything, turns back to the house where Cameron and others were waiting for her.

"I'm sorry about him." Kay quickly apologizes. "Can I get you a coffee? Free of charge, even if you order a large or something overly complicated. Even ones for your friends, if you'd like."

The way she's looking at him is odd. Every single motion seems to catch her eye- even his blinking.

"Oh." Brooks glances towards Mysli before back to Kay, taken by surprise at the offer. "As much as I'd like to say that you don't have to do something that nice, I'll definitely take a medium cup of coffee. I mean, free food or drink I'll take any day." He grins.

She nods and hurries inside the cafe, gesturing for him to follow.

Brooks heads after her without a second thought. He slips inside the cafe before the door closes behind Kaylee and takes a few moments to apparently admire the quaint place as he walks in.
Since Kaylee is good at reading people and has a power to perceive more, she would recognize that he's looking for exits/entrances and places to hide; common procedure for someone looking for hiding something fleeing Magic people.
He glances towards Kaylee, "Is Mysli usually like that?"


Aliyah got back to their little base and passed out everyone's order before settling down on the couch, propping open the book she hadn't yet finished from a year ago, and drinking her cup of coffee.
She had been reading for a total of twenty minutes when the words seemed to shift on her page. "(Words that are copyrighted) and Aliyah came back home happily, but not forever after because SOMEONE forgot a certain person's order of lemonade and corn dogs. So this certain person whose order never arrived will slowly waste away and DIE and it will be all yo-" the page ran out of room to hold more great, glowing, green letters.
Aliyah suppresses a smile at Ariel's overdramatic ways. He only acted like this when he was half amused, a quarter annoyed, and a fourth disappointed about something. She looks up to find the child (who had gone silent since the Magic came) looking at her expectantly. "Why don't you ask Cam to take you out to eat wherever you want? Ze needs to eat more so you taking zir to a restaurant will be good for both of you. Does that sound like a fine plan?"
Ariel sighs and nods, though he looks excited despite his sassy attitude.

She nods, heading behind the coffee counter. The few others working there glance at her, but none question it. "He's always been cranky. Been even crankier lately- the mist made him really stressed, I think- what kind of coffee do you want?"

"Maybe his new magic power is being even more annoying." Another worker shrugs.

"Wouldn't surprise me." Kay shrugs, turning back to Brooks. "You said medium, right?" She asks as she reaches for the cups. "And iced or hot? Or cold brew?"

Brooks smiles at the conversation, taking note of what information would help him or interest him. He takes out a pen and writes a note to himself on his wrist to remind himself to look into Mysli potentially having Magic. While he's doing so, he recites what he usually gets.

Cameron runs up the stairs when Aliyah calls for zir. "Yes? Is something wrong?"
"Yes, something is wrong. I forgot to feed this child. Go feed him something and get something for yourself while you're at it." Aliyah demands. Cam releases the breath ze had been holding; ze feared that The Force had found out about someone they felt stewardship over.
"OK. Next time don't call me like that. You scared me and I thought that The Force had arrived or something." Ze explain, gathering zir coat and offering zir hand to Ariel, who latches onto zir hand.
Cameron checks zir pockets for zir wallet before heading outside with Ariel in tow. Ariel had been cooped up inside the house for a while since Farren had thought the child would not hesitate to show off to the first person he met. So, once outside, Ariel releases Cameron's hand and bolts to the nearest place where he knew would find people he enjoys being around at this time of day (the cafe, meaning he's looking for Kaylee or Tanja or Mysli or someone). Cameron gives a sound of alarm and begins to chase after him, genuinely fearing for the young boy's life.

She nimbly begins making his drink. She's clearly worked here for a long while, because the nimbleness and quick nature of how she makes it is almost hypnotic in a way. She soon is finished, and hands him his drink with a smile. "There you go!"

Brooks watches her and admires her knowledge of the place and talent in her job. "Thank you, Kaylee. I will remember this kindness," he takes a sip of what he ordered, "and how good this tastes. I think I'll have to come back." He remarks, fishes out a tip equal to the price of the coffee, and hands it to her.

Kai has circled back around to where she had sent Brooks off to and is now waiting outside. Cafes, public place, or places away from those she knows well aren't generally the place she'll be going to. She watches as a young child run away from what she assumes is his parent (Ariel and Cameron) and head towards the cafe. "This place is popular", she thinks to herself.

Her eyebrows raise in surprise, and her smile gets bigger- more genuine than the previous corporate 'here's your order' smile. "That's very generous of you. What did you say your name was?"


Mysli has noticed the two headed towards the cafe. He's glaring at them, not caring if they notice or not.
