Ahelissa glanced up curiously at Remilia, then took a deep breath, biting her lip before she started.
" I was only eight when it happened. My mother and I were sitting by the cooking fire, and she was teaching me how to sew. Father was making some arrows because he had seen an enormous white hart in our corn-field and intended to hunt it the next day. He had promised to give me the antlers if he caught the beast. I soon grew tired of sewing, mostly because I kept stabbing my fingers with the needle. So, I occupied myself my tossing little twigs into the fire. It was harmless, the sticks were only about the size of my thumb. I enjoyed the little pop that they would make if they still had sap inside them. But I threw one a little too hard, and it went through the the flames and out the other side. It landed on the woven rug on the floor and caught it on fire. Just a few little tongues of flame, but it was spreading fast. Ma jumped up to stamp it out, and Father joined her, but it had made it to the straw bed in our one-room cottage. That quickly burst into flames, and soon the support beams of the house caught too. They were weakening by the second, and were going to give way at any second. Father grabbed both me and Ma's hand and ran toward the door. By this time, everything was afire, and the smoke was blinding. I was shorter, so it didn't affect me as much as it did Father and Mother. I led them, and was almost to the door when the roof caved in. The force of it sent me staggering through the doorway, but, but," Ahelissa took a long, ragged breath. "Ma and Papa weren't so lucky. And since the roof wasn't holding the four walls upright, they fell outward. The wall with the doorway I had just come out of slammed into me. Some of the wood had splintered, slicing through my arm on the way down." Ahelissa held up her arm and showed how the wood had sliced her arm. "So, it was my fault that my parents are gone, and that I'm even here in the first place." She rubbed at her eyes with her knuckles and grasped at her leather collar angrily. "It's all my fault! Everything!"

"Yerik Alderich. My father was Kallin Alderich, the ambassador for Adreoles." Emrys replied, using her alias as she shook her hand. She glanced at Odelina, getting nervous as she was studied.
"Well, if I were a female I don't think I'd enjoy drowning in ruffles." She smiled a little, once again brushing her hair from her eyes. She did miss her long hair, short hair always tickled her face.

Remilia listened quietly, her face showing her horror. Her mother had died of illness, and her father had passed of it as well. It was the reason why she was so germaphobic, but imagining them burn to death terrified her.
"I'm sorry. That must have been awful." She said quietly. She now felt horrible for having this girl here, she was what, only fourteen? Only four years younger than her. "Mistakes happen. Things happen for a reason." She said as she looked out the window. "I'm sure you've noticed I'm quite young for a duchess, my parents passed away from a deadly virus. I can at least share the pain of loosing those you cherish with you."

Emrys caught eyes with him, a sick feeling in her stomach. She knew for sure he was glaring, but why? It then dawned on her she was a man speaking to them both, sometimes she forgot she was a male in the eyes of others. If that made sense.

Odelina noticed Averill glaring. She walked over to him. It is fine, I think he may be someone that could help your sister with her goal. Maybe... give her a chance to talk. She whispered to him. She turned back to watching Lidia.

Lidia looked over him, a skeptical look on her pale face. "Nice to meet you.", She smiled, putting a smile on her face. She was sure there was something up with Yerik, but she couldn't find what. "I've burnt most of the dresses my mother bought me, I find them hard to fight in.", She agreed.
"I might just invite you to a meeting I'm holding tonight since you hate the king so much." A murderous glint flashed in her eye, but it wasn't directed at her, it was directed at the king.

Odelina nodded. She continued to watch, hoping that Lidias first impression of them was not false. Her head tilted slightly to the side. She still wasnt sure about them, something seemed a little off, like they were hiding something.

Emrys felt her hands get a little sweaty. She was normally calm, she had been acting as Yerik Alderich for four years, but being around the children of the King was freaking her out to say the least. If they knew who she was, it wouldn't be good.
"Excuse me, a meeting? What ever for..?" She asked skeptically, and she saw the murderous glint clear as day, for she had that same glint in her eyes every day.
