Dimly, she was aware of cars and people moving past her vision. She kept her eyes on the road ahead, feet thudding rhythmically on the shoulder. At the gym, she could run almost eight miles in an hour. This was harder--she was on a hilly road; the mountain air was thin. It didnt matter. Setting her jaw, Electa ran faster, pushing herself. After a few miles, she abandoned her jacket, throwing it to the side of the road.

Vexin kept up with her fairly easily, keeping his mind set as if he was on the field. He pushed his glasses up multiple times, hair bouncing into his vision now and then.

She lost track of the time. There was only the endless concrete and running and the frantic beating of her heart. Finally she came up over a rise and saw two motorcycles parked on the grass to the side of the shoulder. A man and a woman were standing beside them, looking like theyd stopped to rest; they were pulling on their helmets. On the highway, the line of cars stretched out, as unmoving as ever.

He stumbled a bit as he came up besides her, panting heavily with a soft weeze.

The couple stopped mid-motion, watching Vexin and Electa in amazement as she jogged up to them. She put her hands on her thighs, gasping for breath; she could feel the sweat coursing down her face. "What--what time is it?" she panted.

The man had long brown hair in a ponytail, a braided goatee, and sunglasses. He took a cell phone from the pocket of his jeans. "Five twenty-seven," he said.

Vexin came behind Electa and almost collapsed to the ground. He couldn't breath all to well at the moment.

"How far to the Church of Angels?"

The man made a face. "Ah, you're not one of those, are you? I don't know, five or six miles?"

"Here," said the woman, handing her a bottle of water. She was short, with a round face and long black hair, and was staring at him in concern. "Your friend looks like he needs it."

Vex gave a shaking thumbs up. "I-I'm fine, th-thank you ma'am." He panted.

Electa offered the water bottle to Vexin

"I'm alright." He said, standing straight up to catch his breath.
