(It's all good. :) Sorry that mine is a little long. Summary of what happens.. Chace: Doesn't understand why Aspen is asking zir not to lock up all the prisoners so ze states a few points on why ze is, and then offers Twitch to Aspen. Twitch: thinks about how he'll dread being in a cage and then sits down to get off his feet and talks back to Kella despite telling himself he'd stay silent and do as told to survive.)

Chace
Chace blinks at the outburst from Aspen. Ze looks at her with a tilted head, trying to figure out if Aspen ment it the way it had sounded to zir. It had sounded like a challenge, like she didnt trust zir ability to make the right choice. That made zir a bit upset. Ze tries to level zir emotions so ze doesnt make an enemy of Aspen. Ze halts Kella, who still holds Twitch to keep him from running away, with a gesture.
"Are you questioning my authority or my decision?" Zir voice was quiet, filled with genuine curiosity and an edge of warning. Perhaps if ze didnt push the subject, the misunderstanding would clear over faster. However, ze feels the need to press the issue.
"This creature is not a child." Chace says creature with obvious distaste. Ze starts explaining zir side of the topic with facts. "It is old enough to fight in a battle. It was strong enough to outlive the dance with death. Unless humans are starting to send kids to fight their battles, we can assume that it is not a child.
"It might have been treated just fine at its base; its current injuries cannot be proof of an abusive past. Everyone gets hurt in battles. My soldiers, their soldiers. All are at risk of getting hit, of being unable to heal, of dying on whatever grounds are determined to be worth fighting over. It being injured now doesnt tell us anything."
Finally Chace faces the emotional side, where morals - or rather, the NewBorns morals - have been keeping zir from offering it mercy. "Lastly, I cannot trust someone who might take advantage of my leniency. If this mewling NewBorns claims have been true - that it did in fact turn on its fellow soldiers, be they NewBorn or Human - I cannot trust it to behave. Who can trust someone who turned on their fellow soldiers once the other side proved to be winning? Im not willing to let it be a risk to my people."
Chace is trying to talk it over, to give Aspen a chance to show her side and ideas, even though ze isnt known to be swayed. However...
"However, if you are still sympathetic to its existence and want to have responsibility for it, I can give you this creature to look after. Consider this NewBorn a gift or a curse, Ill give it to you because I admire you and your compassion." Ze shrugs and leans closer to Aspen so the NewBorn wont hear what ze says next, "Well try your way with this one, my way with the others. Your way being however you decide to treat the creature; Ill give you free reign with this one. If your way gets better results, more accurate useful information, and faster, Ill think of having your way implemented."

Twitch
Twitch had put up his greatest brave and tough act as Chace's verdict was spoken. His expression had fallen into an angry one that had gotten easier to use over the years. He was tired and exhausted and the buzz of pain in his wing and the stab of agony any time his shoulder moved didn't help his case. He drags his feet despite his best efforts not to, when Kella begins to take him away to throw him in another cage.
This cage would probably be more true to its definition (structure of bars in which birds or other animals are confined). The previous cage had been the Master's house; and Hatch's governing system. Before that, he bet his own family and house could have been another disaster. He didn't remember anything before he had been taken in by Master, but, based on the other's pasts, it couldn't have been better than Master's system. Hatch's governing system was probably still in effect though, seeing as Hatch had survived the initial battle. Now it was their duty to survive the pain, fear, and haunts after.
Twitch's legs had almost given out when Kella stopped at Chace's command. He was grateful for the pause from walking even though they hadn't gotten that far. As soon as Kella turns around to face Chace and awaits zir next command, Twitch drops to his knees to get off of his aching feet. Kella's grip had tightened on his arm as soon as he had begun to collapse. The pressure registered as pain. Twitch ducks his head and breathes out a slow breath, resisting the urge to cry out.
"What are you trying to do, NewBorn?" Kella hisses, "You know I'm not letting you get away. You should know that Chace isn't one to change opinions or orders."
Twitch willed himself to stay silent, to simply go with the flow in order to survive. Hearing his own voice, even if it was a whisper, surprised him. "Is that right, feathers?" He shudders when his own tone matches Kella's, both holding an edge of hatred and aversion. "Well, I won't be running or flying away right now. So, you don't have to hold my arm so tight." He breathes a sigh of relief when her grip loosens slightly. Then he returns his attention to the conversation going on between Chace and the Guardian of the Brom Burg Forest. He has a feeling this chat would determine his fate and subsequently, the fate of his friends.
