He can hear the bushes and leaves moving behind him, as if someone is chasing him.

Lycan increases his pace to try to outrun whoever it is that's chasing him. He won't risk a fight with Pam so close by.

He can hear the growling of some sort of creature, clearly not human. It doesn't sound like it's gaining on him, but it also doesn't sound like he's gaining any sort of distance between himself and whatever the thing may be.

It sounds like it's behind him. It also sounds slightly above him- it must be taller than he is.

He hears something make a sound close behind him. It sounds close to a bark, but not quite. However, the creature isn't faster than him, so he's able to get into the tree with Pam unharmed.
