"That would be alright." 'As long as you are there with me.' He thought the last part.

She smiled. "Great! Although, from what Cully said, I might be the only Angel Killer left. I've got to find some new AKs and train them, or else humanity won't even stand a chance. We could find someplace down there where you'll be safe and hole up while I put some feelers out. There were some good AKs from Mexico--I think with luck, I could get something going there, start up operations again. What do you think?"

His angel half still shivered at the thought that she was still an Angel Killer. "Sounds like it could work, if it doesn't become too well known and spread to anyone that's part of The Church of Angels."

She gave a short, humorless laugh. She tossed a pebble into the undergrowth. "Yeah. Well, I don't think they would find out, because we have to find people first which might take a while."

He nodded, biting his lower lip.

She hugged him again, glad that he had agreed. All at once her emotions washed over Vexin, as clearly as his own: fear of losing Vexin, determination that she wouldn't. And so deep down that she was hardly aware of it herself, she was thinking about her brother. Sudden images flashed in his head: a boy who looked somewhat like Electa, but taller and stockier; he was lying on the rocky ground, staring blindly up at the sky. Electa screaming her brothers name, her voice ragged with agony. It was her fault, all her fault.

He hugged her back, closing his eyes tightly as it all hit him. He was shocked, she'd lost her brother as well and she'd been right there by him. He held her tightly, wanting to make her feel better and not think of that. His wings wrapped around her.

Slowly, she relaxed. Pulling away a little, she kissed him and stroked his hair back. "Look...this is the best plan I can come up with for now. I've got to keep you safe, Vexin. If you really are the one to destroy them, then we'll deal with it when the time comes, okay?"

He gave a nod, gently resting his forehead to hers as he closed his eyes for a moment. "Okay."
