He feels its little wet nose pressing into his feathers to get a better sense of his smell. It's a young jay one, which is probably why it hasn't fled- both young packrats and the jay species of them are known for being relatively bold. They're the best way to befriend a flock, though many are friendly even without being fed like this one is being.
