Zeth

Her heart melted just a little. This kid was super cute and he sounded so grown up. At the moment, she didn't really car if anyone saw who she was. She was armed and unafraid. She pulled the blanket off of her face and wrapped it around the little kid, picking him up and propping him in her hip.
"Okay cutie, why don't you tell me where you parents are, or maybe where you live. I'll help you get home, okay?"
She secretly loved kids, who wouldn't? They are so small and vulnerable.She felt obligated to protect them.

Scias blinked, clutching onto the scarf delicately.
Did.. She honestly not recognize him?
He'd be more enthusiastic about finally successfully fooling someone on this planet if his mind wasn't a mess right now.
He decided to go along with it, dropping his head and not sure what else to say to her right now or even sure if he should ruin her mood again.
"..Not here."

Zeth

"I'm sorry, what kiddo? Not here? Is someone watching us?"
She had begun to look around, super confused. Not here. What the hell was that supposed to mean? She rubbed the kid's head, playing with his hair. That often helped to calm kids down from here experience.
"Why don't you tel me what you mean?"

Scias
He resisted the urge to facepalm and looked around a bit before nodding.
"Can we go somewhere safe first?"

Zeth

She was honestly so confused. In her mind, this kid must be pretty scared of something or someone if he is asking Zeth to take him somewhere safe.
"Um, okay?"
There was an alley nearby, so maybe that was a quick and theoretically safe place to go. She walked into the alley and set the kid down, then squatting in front of him. She didn't know exactly what to say, so she just sat there expectantly, waiting for the kid to talk.

He was red-faced at this point from her holding him and it took him a minute to get his bearings back before coming clean.
"Zeth, you idiot, it's me."

Zethrin

"Oh, well then."
She simply stood up properly and began to walk away.

Scias
He followed behind her, frowning and still clinging onto the scarf she had put on him.
"Zeth.. Please. Come on.. I know I'm a huge ****up, but I don't want to keep hurting you like this. I'm.. just not used to dealing with people. Especially like this, I can't even think straight around you. Let me make up for it."

Zeth

She stopped walking for a moment, crossing her arms. Zeth didn't turn around, but she was listening. She didn't say anything, she couldn't. She was just as confused and guilty as he was.

Scias
He stepped over to her and held onto one of her arms gently.
"I told Traquil I'd promise to protect you no matter what. And I don't ever want to go back on that.
He told me what you've already been through with your last partner and how you ended up here and I was thinking about it earlier.
I guess I'm just.. not.. used to having people care about me. I've always looked at my life as pretty expendable because I've never really had to fear death like that.. But I never realized how much it messes with other people and I definitely don't want to keep putting you or anyone else in harm's way."

He shut his eyes momentarily and made a hand signal across his chest. Zeth probably wasn't aware of the significance of their admittance sign, but he was surprisingly solemn for a moment.
"Inspector's oath. My life for yours."
