I think that only works for LG?

I know for sure you also get small bits of gold for human enemies in the fest zones, and I'm pretty sure you do in the other Astryl's Vale areas. It's really just the first two zones I'm not 99% sure of. LG definitely gives more, though (though not a *lot* more lol)

thinking about it, and using my experiences as a guide, one reason you might not get gold from enemies in the early stages is because at that point you are likely doing the missions as often as you can, while by the later stages, I know that at least I have stopped doing them because I just don't *remember* to do them.

Just trying to think of a reason why you would start getting gold later on rather than in the beginning when the little bits of gold you get from enemies would be more helpful. (it does add up, but rather slowly :P)
