You go to the Inventory, select the Essence, then click on the envelope icon that lights up above the Use Item option. Then set the CoD for 8000 gold. The CoD is the very important step. It's the only way to receive gold from other players. (Conversely, if you are sending gold, the other party has to send you a random item and set up the CoD accordingly.)
