Lani blinked and stepped back a bit. "Wow... harsh. But, um.. i-it's not witchcraft at all! It's just a thing I can do. Shapeshifting, is what my family called it. Anyway... could I ask your name...? Please?" She tilted her head a bit at Roach.
Honestly, she was mainly trying not to get her head cut off more than she was trying to make friends at this point. She could tell she'd fallen into a situation that could no doubt result in her death. Needless to say, she didn't really want that.

"That sounds a lot like witchcraft to me," Roach pointed out. Once the deck was clear, she took a step back to put more distance between herself and the witch - or, shapeshifting person, whatever she was. It didn't matter. All that mattered was that the girl had been a bird, not five minutes ago, and now she was a mostly human-looking person. Talking.
She cocked her head to the side and wrinkled her nose, somewhat intrigued by the woman. All pirates were a bit mad, she thought. It was a code that she had tried to live by. Madness for the sake of madness, though... That was not allowed. Only madness for the sake of pirating.
"Roach," she answered in spite of the voice in her head telling her not to.

"Roach hm...? Strange name. But I like it!" This was purely an attempt to get on her good side.
Lani adjusted her stance frequently, clearly uncomfortable at best, downright scared for her life at worst. She'd never admit it, but it was closer to the worst.

One thing that Roach prided herself on was her way to see through most lies. That on top of never lying herself, anyway. She scrutinized Lani for a minute, pretty sure she was lying - partly because she knew that the name she had adopted years ago for herself wasn't really one that most people 'liked'. It wasn't supposed to be. It was the meaning behind it that mattered. And, of course, the fact that it was an impression.
"No, ye don't," Roach chuckled. "But that's no matter. I don't like it all that much, either. 'Tis not important. What is important is why ye crashed down onto Neptune's Pride. Are ye an intruder? Sent by another captain to plunder us? If ye don't want to answer on the deck, I could always make ye go out on the plank."

"N-No! Not at all!" She waved her hands in a bit of panic. "I-I didn't mean to fall here! I was just trying to get a good lookout... my friends, and brother, are on a boat somewhere out here.. no idea where though. Just after I got up into the air and searched around, finding nothing but water, they were suddenly out of my sight. I'm not sure if the wind picked up suddenly, or they.. c-capsized... but I had no choice but to keep flying. And then I found this ship, and was trying to figure out if it would be good to land here, when my wing gave out. I think you know the rest..."
She's started to calm a little. But she's still noticeably scared.

Roach almost physically recoiled from the emotion in Lani's voice. Emotion wasn't something that was really valued when it came to piracy. Roach herself had had to learn to set aside her silly human feelings in order to find herself a better life. True, many might argue that piracy wasn't much of a life, but to her, it was the freedom that truly did it. Freedom from silly societal rules and marriage and others' thoughts.
"Oi, I didn't ask for a sob story," she growled, clenching her fists at her sides. "We've all got a bit o' sadness in
our pasts. Pirates don't grant pardons on basis of sadness. I'm afraid I gotta take ye to the captain. Only he can decide what to do with ye."
As she spoke, she stepped forward and grabbed Lani's arms. She took a length of rope from the ground and tied the intruder's wrists tightly enough that she wouldn't be able to escape. Then, she began escorting her towards the captain's cabin.

As soon as Roach touched her, she went into a crazed panic. She thrashed, trying to escape her grasp. But she went completely silent, strangely enough. Her second talon revealed itself, and she clawed at Roach viciously.
All thought stopped. She was pure feeling, pure fear. Lani was no longer the little bit human she was for a moment. She was pure animal.
