Avia was tired of waiting, she knew there was people living right next door to her. She could see them both sit at the window. A boy and a girl. Oh how fun it would be to meet someone else. Avia stood up and grabbed her slingshot. She would have to stick with the shadows so the zombies don't see her. She still had on a big blue puffy dress,(In picture) That she was wearing right before the zombie attack. It wasn't something she really wanted to wear 24/7 but she also didn't want to walk around naked. She walked to the front door with memories of the wedding in mind. It was beautiful. One of her best friends was getting married and she was one of the bride's maids. She shook her head as if to shake the memories out. "I'm coming." She said with shear confidence in her voice. It was wavery and a little squeaky. She hasn't been out of the house in a few weeks and every day it seems like the zombies are getting stronger and smarter. "You can do it." She kept telling herself over and over again out loud. She was only talking in a whisper but she could hear rustling outside from the zombies. She pinched herself on the arm. It was something she did as if to check if she were dreaming or not. She use to do it when she was a little girl because of all her night terrors. "Not a dream." She whispered to herself and turned the door handle, opening the door to the outside and those evil creatures. Avia walked out on the porch. She was barefooted and the ground was cool under her feet. Winter was coming and she would soon have to find warm clothing. She looked up and down the street. There was only one zombie right now in sight! She felt a sliver of confidence come in her. She could get next door without being seen no problem. She dropped down on her knees and began crawling to the edge of the built in porch. It was only built up about three feet. "Easy to jump over." She whispered confidence to herself. She stood up in a lower hunkered position were she could just see over the porch wall. The zombie was still standing in the middle of the street staring at a house that was on the other side of the street from her. She wondered if someone was over there making noise that she couldn't hear. She shook her head and pinched herself one more time. "Here goes nothing." She whispered to herself and took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She stood up a little taller just so she was a head over the wall and looked down. It was a four and half to five foot drop. Easy for her to do. She has been up higher and jumped. The only problem was the bush below. It would make a lot of noise if she fell into or bumped it. Avia threw her leg slowly over the porch wall and her other leg to were she was just sitting on the wall looking down. She had to shimmy a little to the right to be able to miss the bush. She held her breath and jumped, her landing was quiet but the noise she made was atrocious. It was like a high pitched scream. She immediately switched into survival mode and threw herself against the wall so the zombie couldn't see her. The only cover she had was the bush. her breath really heavy from anticipation and fear and it felt like her heart was about to jump out of her chest. She peaked around the bush and it looked like the zombie didn't even move. She smiled and pinched herself again. It was just plain luck that the zombie didn't try to kill her. Still leaning against the house she quietly slid into the back yard. She was planning on hopping the fence to get to the house next door. This house was already taken over when she got here. It was the best barricaded and the biggest. she was in the clear so far. Avia looked at the second fence she had to climb. It was at least six feet tall. She let out the quietest sigh she could and tip toed her way to the fence. Avia was only five feet four inches tall so this would be a challenge. She stood on her tip toes and jumped. She was starting to think the four years of ballerina her mom made her take was really paying off. She grabbed the top of the fence and started to pull herself up. She could only pull her body off the ground a foot or so, so she swung her body and caught the top with her foot. She was hoping that when she did get there these kids would let her in. She pulled herself over the fence and walked up the sidewalk that lead from the garage to the house. She liked the way cement felt under her toes. She always thought grass was to squishy. She reached the door and knocked lightly on it. She didn't want the zombie to know she was here but she wanted the kids to know she was there. It was very complicated. Avia began tapping her foot waiting for the two to respond. She was hoping they were awake.

Archer, when he arrived home, was panting very hard, holding the vegetables and bottle of water in his hand. He wished his mom was still alive. It was a dumb wish. An impossible one. He couldn't bring his mom back to life! He was crazy. When he recovered from his hard sprint from the grocery store, he quickly and quietly walked upstairs to the storage cabinet he used to put all the food and everything else needed to live inside. He stuffed the supplies into the storage cabinet, and sat down on the floor, exhausted. "I have to get up," he thought, " and be on the lookout for more zombies. He wished there was still someone in this town that could protect him. Or even someone he could protect. At least like that, he would at least feel useful rather than useless. At that moment, he decided to actually risk his life again, running across the neighborhood to the nearest inhabited house, to see if they could join up and protect each other. He walked down the stairs, and when he neared the door, he grabbed his bow and arrow, and looked through the window to make sure there were no zombies nearby before he sprinted outside to the nearest house. There weren't. He opened the door, trying not to make any noise opening it, closed the door, and sprinted across the lawn, hopped over the 6 and a half foot wall, and hurriedly ran toward the nearest inhabited house. He met a few zombies on the way there, but he just shot them with his bow and arrow and ran even faster to the house he was aiming for. A few moments later, he saw the house. There were a few lights on in the house, which made him run all the harder because he wanted to make it there alive. When he arrived at the house, he jumped over another 6 and a half foot fence into the house lawn, and stared, awed, at the size of the house. It was a mansion!! "Snap out of it." he thought to himself, "Get in that house as fast as possible before you die." He sprinted toward the front door, knocked, and waited for the person who lived there to answer. He knocked again, and heard thumping on the steps. He thought to himself, "Hurry up whoever you are!! I don't want to be eaten right now!! I'd rather live actually!!"
Orange Blossom opened the door, and saw a really handsome young man, carrying a bow and arrow. She offered to let him in, and the young man gladly hopped into the house and Orange Blossom, at that moment, became a bit flushed in the face. "He's cute." She thought to herself. The boy, at that moment, said, "My name is Archer by the way. Can you close the door now so we don't get eaten by zombies??" "Sure." Orange says. She closes the door and says, "Ok. So what are you doing here, and why are you carrying a bow??" Then, Archer saw the sword hanging on the wall. "Wow. What is that for??" he said. "Uh..... That's personal. Answer my question now, before I use the sword on you." Orange Blossom said. "All right." Archer said. "Here's why I'm here. I want to offer you a deal. We can partner up, and team up against the zombies, and anyone else out there that's a threat. I can get you food and water, and everything you need." It did sound tempting to Orange Blossom's stomach, so she said "Yes." "Ok." said Archer. " I guess I can stay here then, if we are partnering up??" "Sure........... I guess??" said Orange Blossom.

Sebastian paced back and forth, occasionally stopping and checking on Amelia again. He knew zombies were wandering around the street, but also knew there was no way for them to get into the house. All the doors and windows were reinforced with extra wood and in some cases metal when they could salvage it off. They were even in the process of reinforcing the outside walls, just in case.
Inside the house they had quite a bit of food stockpiled away. They had dried goods that would last for at least another month, if not more. They had a system to catch water when it rained. They had the ability to grow more food thanks to planters they had installed on the roof. Originally they had more planters inside, but they were running out of electricity to power the lights to keep them alive. They had enough food piled away for now and with the constant growing of food, they were doing pretty well for themselves.
In addition to food, water, and shelter, they had also prepared by stockpiling some medical supplies. While neither had a degree in a medical field, both were pretty handy with medical supplies. Unless you had to hold in your intestines with your own hands, they could generally patch you up. While others had raided the store for food, they had wiped out the medical supplies, including the things behind the counter. Formerly controlled substances were still for the most part controlled, just not controlled by the adults who thought they knew everything. The drugs were stored separately from the first aid supplies, just in case someone managed to get in past their defenses and try to steal their supplies.
All in all, they were rather self-sustaining. They had to learn to give up some things but they were able to survive in their home without much trouble. Of course, even before the world went sideways, they were self-sustaining. They had learned how to live off the grid while they were in school. Of course, in school it was in preparation for living on the battle grounds, not necessarily holed up in a home. The same principals could be used in both circumstances though.
Sebastian let his mind wander, already thinking of the next improvement they would make on the house. They would continue fortifying the walls if at all possible. He supposed a next project could be a perch, like on a ship, to better scout out around the house. It got both tiresome and boring to pace back and forth on the same rooftop for hours at a time. It was doable, but being able to sit on one spot and have a better view would be a step forward. Of course, the advantages come with disadvantages. While he is standing and walking around, hes more diligent and more alert and more awake. If he were to sit in one spot, even if he could see all around, he was still more likely to get tired easier due simply to the fact that he was sedentary. He would discuss it with Amelia in the morning after they both had slept.
He watched as the bird flew closer to the house and heard as it cawed. He studied it for a moment, stopping his pacing and looking at it. He was slightly confused as to why it approached him and landed near him. Most birds were hunting and then finding their nesting place. Most birds werent this carefree around people. He pulled his attention away from the bird and again scanned the perimeter of the house, returning to his pacing. If the bird wanted to join him on the roof, that was its own choice.
Movement from the house next door caught his attention. He saw the door open and close and a shadow move from inside it. He saw the puffy dress, not instantly recognizing it for what it was until she moved a little farther from the door. He watched in fascination as the shadow sank to the ground and moved slowly in his direction. He had no idea what was going on, but knew that the zombies werent a threat at the moment, at least not to him. He had a bit of time that he could dedicate to watching this new shadow.
His eyes followed the shadow as it moved to the wall and then over the wall. He was surprised that it was still heading in his direction. He didnt think it was a threat, mostly due to its slow movement, but he didnt want to let his guard down too soon. He twitched slightly in surprise by the loud shriek. A girl, the shadow was a girl. Just from the sound of it, he was certain of that.
He watched as the shadow flattened itself against the wall, almost completely hidden behind the shrub. He heard Amelia stir and walk over towards him. No doubt the shriek had woken her. He felt her hand on his shoulder and a moment later felt her weight lean against him. He felt her head press against his shoulder trying to follow his line of sight to see what had woken her.
He nodded in the direction of the shadow which conveniently moved again so she could lock eyes on it. Together they watched as the girl scaled their fence. Sebastian, realizing a large amount of shadow was a dress, was momentarily impressed she was able to climb over the fence so quickly. He added a mental note that the fence needed to be heightened, or otherwise fixed to make it more difficult to penetrate.
Sebastian glanced down to Amelia as they watched her stroll up to their porch. The girl nodded, answering his unasked question, and headed down to a slope in the roof. She climbed down and into the window, reentering the house through a second story window. There was a reason they had selected this house. It fit them both well.
Sebastian returned to watching the streets, trusting Amelia to tend to their guest. He didnt want to let his guard down just because something interesting had happened. If necessary, Amelia would fetch him and they could all have a discussion. The house was suitably protected to not need constant surveillance, after all, but it was always nice to know what was going on before trouble knocked on the door.
Without a word, Amelia unlocked and opened the door just after the girl knocked on it. She pulled the door open, but stood in the gap, taking a second to make sure she was their only guest. Taking a step back, she silently welcomed the girl into their home, instantly closing and locking the door behind her.
Inside the foyer was a small table housing a few odds and ends. There was a hammer and a collection of nails in a small jar. They had been repairing the door jamb earlier in the day and hadnt yet put away the supplies. Next to the jar of hammers was a glass with water. Amelia couldnt remember whose water it was. They had both been drinking out of the same glass by the end of the day. Leaning against the table was one of Amelias staves. It was within reach of the door, yet without looking too threatening should anyone notice it. It leaned against the table as innocently as a broom.
Hello. Amelia finally broke the silence with her soft whisper. Upstairs she could still hear Sebastian pacing on the roof. In front of her, she looked bemused at the girl, wearing a large blue dress, with a little hat upon her head. This certainly made for an interesting tale in the night.

'This sucks!' Sage thought leaning against a wall with her hands in her lap. Her once lush brown hair was now dirty and oily. It made her feel disgusting. A slight grimace appeared on her face as she ran her hand threw it and quickly took her hand back to her lap.
Sage sat in the back yard of a family she used to know. She wished ore then anything to go inside, but she was afraid she'd see one of those things. In her mind, she refused to face the facts. Ever movie she'd ever liked, any video game she'd ever played. They were all right. Zombies have taken over. But she couldn't -- wouldn't, come to terms with it. No matter what she thought, she couldn't actually believe it was happening. Nothing could have per paired her for this.
Even so, she'd survived for over three weeks. Sure she was bruised and aching, but not dead. In fact, the only reason she wasn't in her house, eating out of an old bean can she'd found in the back of her shelf was because one of this things, a zombie, had gotten threw her make-shift barricade. Now she sat in the backyard of an abandon house, just trying to take a quick rest for a moment. But that wasn't going to be possible, not with all of this worry in the pit of her stomach. It made her sick to think that something could pop out and try to eat her at any moment.
With this thought in mind, she quickly stood up and rounded the corner of the house and looked around. Nothing yet. She huffed quietly and continued to walk around the house until she reached the front door. Maybe she was wrong? Maybe there was no one in the house? Might as well try.
With a shaky arm, she lifted her hand to the door, knocking lightly on the hard wood while looking behind her again, fearing that even the slightest sound would alarm those things of her location.
It seems that just as everything was going right, things just had to fall apart again. Nathan was just starting to get his life back together after a pretty bad break up with a girl he'd been dating for almost a year. It was a huge blow to his heart. But it was nothing like this. At least he got peace of mind knowing that that piece of crap guy who stole her from him was dead. But then again, she was probably dead too. Oh well, nothing he could have done.
Nate was actually taking this whole 'Zombies taking over the world' thing pretty well. Sure his dad went out for food and never came back, and sure his dog Halliy was eaten right in front of him. As long as Nathan had his music he was fine. Yet, after a few days, after the power cut and his Ipod died, he's been thinking a lot more. Sometimes he'd rub his hands together until they were red, other times he'd chew on his finger nails until they bled. Okay, maybe he wan't taking it too well.
At this moment, Nathan sat on the couch in the living room of his house, again, biting his nails. He couldn't help but give a nerves glance outside the window, almost like a man who was having a break down because he ran out of cigarettes, in that quick, jittery way people did.

Avia was surprised at how fast She answered the door. She knew they were on the roof because she had watched them many times out of the window from the bathroom. The bathroom was on the second floor and was high enough to see the top of the neighbors roof partially. If she sat there long enough and stared out the window she would be lucky to see movement. This always excited her. Movement meant people!
Avia was surprised when this girl she never met before pulled her right inside. i could be here to kill them and take everything they had. She knew they were loaded because they haven't left the house once since she took over the house next door. She stopped letting her mind wander at these random facts and took in her surroundings. There was a little table with a hammer and a jar of nails. She figured they must have been fixing up the wooden boards they put up. There was a glass full of water closer to the edge of the table.
She did a complete twirl and noticed the wooden staff in the corner. Avia noted this because for all she knew this woman could be crazy and try to kill her. She didn't want to take her chances with someone who was as smart or smarter then her.
Avia jumped when the girl finally spoke. "I-i'm sorry for intruding. I was just wandering if um... If um I could stay here. See I haven't seen people for awhile now. You'r the first and I really miss talking to someone else besides myself." She said and then it got quiet again. She knew this girl was calculating in her head the cost it would be to bring someone she never meant into her palace.
Avia's attention snapped towards the roof. She heard ' plop plop plop'. She knew there was someone else was hear so that raised her nerves a little on edge. Out of habit she reached up and pinched herself.

Jace was in the middle of opening a can of peaches he found in an abandoned house the other day with a screw driver when he heard a light knock at the door. His heart jumped and all he could think of was his dead sister, father, or mother still being alive and coming back to try and kill him for trying to kill them.
Jace slowly approached the door picking up his new and improved baseball bat along the way. By the time he reached the door he kinda hoped they were gone. He slowly flipped the locks open and pulled the door open. There was a girl standing out there with a nervous look on her face. He took a look around her to see if there was anyone else but it was only her. "Come in." He said. He didn't want to leave her out there because she mite draw zombies to his house.
