~200 years in the future but practically same technology.
There was a huge World War 3 and everything went Ka-boom. Most everywhere is unlivable, this takes place in Chicago, one of the slightly better places.
Amity farm and work in public places like hospitals and stores.
Abnegation hates vanity and has something against mirrors, they are selfless and provide a unbiased, honest governent.
Erudite are the smartest people, inventers, engineers, and scientists.
Candor are honest and clear, controlling the legal system and stuff.
Dauntless are the fierce, fearless soldier-warriors who are trained harshly and guard the city from threats both within and without.
