Oh my gosh, I was thinking pretty much the same thing but the opposite. I was thinking that their ancestors' ghosts came to visit them or something. Pretty ironic, huh?
Okay, not to be really cliche but maybe a pirate treasure? Or maybe a treasure that was the spoils of war?

Woah O.O That's cool too... we can do either.
I'm also fine with pirate treasure. I imagine the characters escaping back to the city, stealing some poor fisherman's boat and trying to find the treasure XD
