For a project, get many with the traits and colors you desire and breed until you get them all visible

There are a lot of ways to start a project. It all depends on what kind of project you're doing (themed or non-themed), and what resources you have (a lot of pets? essences?).

My personal way to do a custom project would be to breed all the traits I want visible to a final pair, then dye that pair to the colours I want. This gives me the freedom to breed with any pet I want that has the traits I want, and doesn't require essences. If your project only has a few visible traits though, it'll probably be faster to use essences, then your colours are settled as well, so you wouldn't really need dyes.
