From what i remember you nead to wait until you compleat the bandit camp and the fungus grove tho i am not sure for the last one. Once it's done it will unlock for your second party member the third one will be avalable in the astryls vale.

I think you have to complete a certain quest before you can extend your party, I think it's the capture a sylesti quest. Have you done that?

I captured the first one - He is 15 days old now.

Do I need to capture more than one?

I am getting the sense that I need to be further along in order to release the second slot.

That being said, I have been helping with the bandit raids and missions and finally got to the point where I could get the better version of the "health elixor that gives 400 to the pet during battle". I got a whole bunch of that once I realized that if I kept that going I could defeat multiple enemies.

Hmm... no, you only need to capture one to complete the quest. Guess I remembered wrong then. =/
