Chapter 4: Welcome to a New Life

"Oh, this place is wonderful..." Spring quietly exclaimed. She had never seen so much natural beauty in one place.
"It is, isn't it? The people hollowed out all those trees by themselves! Because of some magic stuff, though, the trees are all still alive, so our homes won't be rotten husks. And that big oak tree is the castle! It's where Princess Lucky and King Lunaire live! The princess handles most of the town's issues and laws and stuff though. The king... He used to be a good King, but... Eh. Sad stuff happened. I'll tell you later! Anyways, the people will be ok with you. A while ago, a tamed Sylestie came and basically made the whole town GREAT! So... Actually, one guard may not like ya. His name is Fair Guardian, but we just call him Guard." Mercury rambled on and on about the town, Guard, the king, the sea kingdom in the far west ruled by a trio of Sylvorpas, and many other things. Magenta had scaled the wall surrounding the town and was speaking to a dark blue Griffi in armor. The Griffi glanced over at Spring, then started to raise the gate. Magenta hopped back down.
"I just spoke to Blue Jay. He said you could enter town without any problems. Princess Lucky would like to see you, but we should get you a place for you and Blossom to stay. Anyways, let's go." He hopped through the gate, and Mercury followed. Spring glanced up at the top of the wall, but the Griffi was gone. She sighed and followed Mercury. Blossom raced ahead of her mother and walked alongside Mercury. Together, they headed off in search for a place for Spring.
The town was a lively little place. Young Vulynxes play-fought with their parents and siblings. Aurleons flew from tree to tree, delivering things and teaching their young to fly. Quitaries and Griffies kept a careful eye over the town from the walls, and overall, it was a happy place.
"Here we go. This is Lunares' apartment building and store. He sells houses, apartments, and loads of stuff. He'll probably give you a room for a while. Magenta explained.
"Um... I don't have any money."
"I'll pay for it. Don't worry, lady."
"Oh, thank you. Actually, do you just use gold here like humans do, or..." Spring trailed off.
"Eh. We just use gold." Magenta didn't even bother to look at Spring. He hopped into the tree and went up to a counter that seemed to be seamlessly connected to the floor. "Hey. Lunares. We need a place for the Faelora and he kid over here. How much would one of the best dens cost?"
A dark blue Puffadore, looking irritated, popped up from behind the counter. "8,000 gold. Payment due in a week or payed right now. Deal?" The Puffadore, apparently called Lunares, glanced up at Spring and Blossom. He narrowed his eyes at them, then shrugged and looked back at Magenta, who had been counting his coins.
"Sure. I can pay now." He tossed a pouch full of coins that Spring didn't even know he had to Lunares. Lunares swiftly caught it and handed Magenta a small, rolled up piece of parchment. "Directions to the place are on there." Magenta nodded and quickly left. Spring, Blossom, and Mercury followed.
"Ok. So... Your place is one of the dens on the cliffside. Third one on the left, apparently. Let's go."
"But... I thought all the houses were trees and stuff?" Spring asked.
"Yeah. The dens are the 'And Stuff'. The wall is connected to a cliff. Dens are dug into the cliff. Oh, the princess is probably gonna wanna see you tomorrow. But you and Blossom gotta sleep. So... Sleep. I guess."
The group walked in silence the rest of the way to the den. When they got there, Spring was just as amazed as when she saw the town. It was a huge den with comfortable straw and feather beds, smaller ones for children, and plenty of space to store things and whatnot. It was well lit with smooth grey walls.
"Welp. Here ya go. Tomorrow, princess Lucky will be seeing you! I think. I'll confirm it in the morning. I have to report all the day's event to her and the king- well, basically only to her. Bye!" Magenta happily bounded out.
"Yeah. She's training to be a guard. Welp. See ya." Magenta followed her. Spring stared after them and sighed. Blossom instantly curled up on the biggest bed and fell asleep. Spring sighed. This would be a long night. She had so many questions.
What happened to the king? Who was the Griffi guard? Who was Fair Guardian? Where was Boreas? Where was Lillith? What happened to Paint? Would her child grow up not knowing her father? Was Boreas dead? What was the sea kingdom Mercury mentioned?
Spring sighed. It wouldn't do any good to mull over those questions all night. She curled up next to her child- her last memory of Boreas if he was truly gone - and fell into a deep sleep.
