Family: Nichini's family was a middle-class ambiguous family, and when the war started instead of choosing a side together the family split up, leaving Nichini on his own.
Past: After that ordeal he was encountered by a high ranking rebel, who recruited him as a soldier in their army. After seeing what Nichini could do he was upgraded to an errand runner of sorts, getting information from the enemy. During his free time he was confronted by an Empire general and went throught the same story. He decided that to decrease the risk of being discovered he would paint himself when he was doing things for the Empire side. Soon he was being recruited by multiple generals and high-class sylestis on both sides, and was run over by stress.
