That's because at the start, the admins were thinking to have a max level of 250 at least by the end of all the content.
The relesed content that's out already (the main quests that you do thus far) only covers 3 world map areas out of 10.
It's staggered (the same way how pokemon's different areas are staggered by different levels and arranged in progression) so that growth progresses as normal. And so far, the last area that's been released was in the level 55-60 range.
You can compare to say...having a pokemon game with only the first 3 gyms open, and you can't level up your pokemon past the level you're supposed to be for the 3rd gym.
If you leveled past that point, it would be: a) difficult to level up from lvl30 to lvl60+ against some lvl20 pokemon in the area, and b) once the 4th gym and later comes out, having lvl60+ pokemon would make progression a breeze, and ruin the game experience (where progression is a good part of the journey).
Pokemon in this case is somewhat of an unfair comparison because Pokemon is a complete game, whereas Sylestia at the current moment is not. The admins have stated that they intend to revamp the site to the point where it wouldn't not have to be known as incomplete.
A better comparison is other MMOs with level caps, but also a fair amount of content, and in order to keep players' interest and have the game's playerbase grow, adds on new content (WoW's new maps and expansions, etc).
Again, I'm sure it's in the works so that gameplay isn't as lame as it may seem.
It's probably disappointing to see all the moves from lvl25-250 and being capped at 60. But I can imagine that at the beginning of it all, the admins decided that 250 would be the max level, and at every 25 levels, there would be a new beneficial move, and that profs would be split at every 5. The only problem was not having enough content prepared for players.
Going back to your pokemon example, Sylestia's like a game where you can only level up your pokemon to 30 and have the limited moveset below that level cap, along with the rest of the game experience under 30.
But for the prof points in specific, it was spaced out to space out the growth of a pet. And it's just that we're stopped at an early point.
Also, you gain level up points per level, that counts. It's not as big as a prof point, but it's still there.
Sorry for the wall of text. I hope my point came across a bit better. I really do see Sylestia as a Beta MMORPG and that there's some waiting involved by the time you finish what content is available, not like Pokemon in the way that everything's already tested and provided. x: |
