"Welcome." I say to the new stud. I turn to the mare. "My name is Ash. Could you show me the other mares in the herd I am kinda new here."

Mysti shrugged. "There is not much to show. Our herd has always been somewhat small. There is Clarion the bay mare and her white yearling would be Windhoof. I think she would like him to be swift when he grows, like her own sire. The buckskin is Clover. I think she might be my grandmother, but she has born so many foals that even she does not remember them all. The chestnut is Junebug and her yearling filly is Sunny. The sorrel mare is Breeze and her twin yearling colts are Thunderstorm and Howler. The Black mare is actually named Butterfly, but she actually prefers to be referred to as Fly. She joined us late last year and so does not have a foal this year. The Palomino is Dawnmane my mother, and I am called Mysti. That's about it."

"Thank you." I limp to the watering hole. My leg was killing me. I jump in the water and swim around some. As I climb out I can't help but think of how lucky I was. Tomorrow would bring a new challenge, but for to day I was safe. I still had to breed all the mares but that was for a new day. "Do you plan to foal this year?" I ask Mysti

Mysti ducked her head shyly at this comment. Torn between the opportunity she had not expected, and her fathers old traditions. "I am not yet sure. My father was against a mare breeding until her third year." The filly tossed her head and snorted, "Of course after a time all the new mares below that age were his daughters so that was a moot point to begin with. Which is why most of my sisters ran away to find other herds, or as the mares put it, stolen into other herds. They may not like the change in lead stallion, but I for one am likely to find it a more favorable option than life under the rule of my father." Mysti smiled, "Of course my mother is likely to say that it is only because I am still young. She seems to think that I am still a Foal at times."

"well lets say that since your father is gone his rules no longer apply to you. Would you like to faol this year?" it was an awkward conversation yes and i had not planned to father that many foals in my life, but if one is to pass on genes than i guess it is better to when your young. As the sun sat on this crazy day i cant help but think of all the work that tomorrow held for me. Not only would i have to cover some of the mares if not all of them i would also have to move the heard to a new spot. i have never bred before and had no real clue how. "to tell you the truth i am scared, about this season that is."

Mysti laughed softly. "I think that would make two of us. Which is the main cause of my uncertainty. I Shall consider it once the herd has been moved to a safer location. The body of my father is likely to attract scavengers. That would be a dangerous complication during a distracting time like breeding season."

Mysti sniffed the breeze,"As long as we are watchful we should have no problems tonight. It is when we are distracted with other things that it becomes dangerous. I would suggest we move early tomorrow, at least to the next valley. Then we could think of other things without worrying over things like wolves or coyotes. It is what we usually did after a challenger fell. However you are the new lead stallion so the decision remains yours."

I was worried. "Let's try to move half way to night, that way I know it will be safe." I limp back up to the hill. "Everyone?" No one was listening

He turned his head up to the voice of Ash, although his thoughts where else were.
I still can't believe that I manged to join this herd, but I never been in one, oh, I hope some one will tell me what to do... He turned his ears to Ash, ready to listen to his leader.
