Sorry to hear of your loss, Lunar. Losing a pet is like losing a close member of your family, just one that happened to be small and furry. You say he was a loving dog, and from the image I can practically feel it; he has very kind eyes - it actually brought tears to mine when I zoomed in to try and match the eye color.

As for a pet of my choice, should I win... Something similar to yours. When I was about 2 an abandoned cat came up to me, sweet and loving as can be. Heh, I picked her up, brought her inside, and begged my parents to let her stay. We kept her as an outside cat for a while, but once Summer hit we started to let her come inside more and more. Soon enough, she was allowed inside whenever she liked. For 15 years, she'd follow me around anywhere she could go. Indoors, outdoors, it didn't matter where; she always wanted to be right by my side. And every night when I'd go to bed, she'd come up and lay down on my chest where I'd pet her until I finally fell asleep.
I've often heard people say that cats are the ungrateful pets, the ones that are only out for themselves with no loyalty to their families. But, not her. One incident she was apparently stolen by someone else. For weeks, she was gone, and I spent as much time as I could looking for her. Eventually I spotted her on a different street, and I knew immediately that she'd stalk me all the way home. When we got home and I was able to get a good a look at her it was clear that she was in good health - well fed, clearly taken care of, but she was soooo hoarse when she meowed. I'm sure she'd spent that whole time crying, begging to be set free to come back home to me.

It's been a few years since she passed, and still I think of her often; I definitely know how it feels to lose a treasured pet. There are many things that I've regrettably forgotten - and the only reason I know I forgot to begin with, is because of the friends and family members that do remember such things.
But, there are some memories that will never fade away. I'm sure that years from now, you'll still hold some lasting memories of him in your heart. That's what makes love so powerful; it transcends the limits of time, space, and even death. Be it the love between people, the love people have for their pets, or the love pets have for their families. And while there are people out there who refuse to believe it, that love you feel from your pets is as real as love gets.
Strength be with you, Lunar. |
