Is it... might it be? Arr, that's a whole lot of Pirate Booty!



Thar be it! An idol, the size of twice a man, carved of gold and silver. Worth a fortune! What say ye we go and 'appropriate' it?

(hmmmmm, pirate story. Let's seeeee. I'll go with something short, I think.)

"But honey, why would you want to become a pirate?" It was the third time she'd asked in as many days. It seemed that the concept of freedom and riches and the wide open sea just didn't compute with the wife.

"Why wouldn't I? We live in a port town, my love. We see pirates frequently enough, and they're always so free. I want to be free like them, not here working at some dingy bar in some remote port."

She looked up at him, lips pursed as she considered this. "You could be arrested, and hung. Pirates are criminals, John."

"Aye, and I'm set to become one as well. I've already asked around town and found a few men for a crew, and I've chosen a ship." his voice had become much colder after her last remark. He loved her, but he also loved the sea, and he had his heart set on piracy.

Another pause. "You'll need someone to keep you in line." she said at last, gently and forcefully at the same time. "I won't let you do this alone."

They took to life on the sea very, very well as a couple. Each supported the other and they became the most notorious pirates about, succeeding marvelously where one on their own would certainly have failed. Their tale is passed around among younger pirates to this day, and stories of the love the two shared that transcended mortality inspired dozens to take the black flag.

I would also like to state now that unless everyone is really uninterested in the story contest I won't be giving prizes for the avatar competition without entries for the story contest. So yes, some entries or feedback would be appreciated.

I'll give this one last bump. I'll end this contest on Wednesday, new entries or not. Bummed out no one seems to want to tell pirate stories. After the judging on the avatars I'll be having a little treasure hunt for everyone else. I'll try to make sure you don't have to be around right then to participate, but I don't expect it to go on more than a day after. Anyone who fails to go on the treasure hunt won't be finding any treasure, sorry.
