They probably didn't know you need essences to make more than one pet because they were too new. I don't think they cheated on purpose. When I was new I tried to make a second starter pet cause I didn't know how the game worked yet.

Hi, I haven't seen the post you're replying to, but thank you haha. I was sort of wondering why it's not normally "allowed" in the first place, but now it makes sense to me. So I agree with you that some are too new to know they were breaking rules or whatever. I shall now try to figure out how to get essence... am I allowed to ask in this thread? I'm hoping that's something you can get somehow without paying money^^

You can get essence a few ways:
(1) Buy from other players here.
Regular essence is generally cheap (1-20k). Though there are a few exceptions. Newly released pets as well as seasonal only pets tend to have their prices set higher.

(2) Get lucky. Sometimes the Sylestis that you defeat in the wild will drop essence.

(3) Buy with diamonds here.

I recommend the first way. Also, you can get pretty much anything on Sylestia without having to pay money. Of course some will be more difficult to obtain without spending money. But there is satisfaction to that too. c:

u can always breed ur desired pet. Buy other players for sale pets at auctions or through the search. They aren't very expesinve last I checked.

You can also get essences from Nuturing sylesti (kind of rare, though).

As for the topic, I have a question: does the sylesti that 'joins' you at the beginning count as a starter pet?

The Starter Pet is just the pet you get to freely generate when you first make your account.
