I know you said it's just starting with Pine and Glitch, I just figured I'd claim the spot before anyone else could.

Name: Waltz
Character: The Awkward, Shy, Nerdy One (The 'whatever you want' main character)
Personality: Waltz is a rather shy Sylestie, preferring to be on her own most of the time. She doesn't like large crowds, and has difficulty engaging in conversation, especially with strangers. Once she does become friends with someone, though, she is a loyal, trustworthy companion. Waltz is the kind of friend you can tell all of your secrets to, and instead of using them as rumor-fodder, she'll keep them forever.
Age: 16 (Human years)
Family: Younger brother, parents are deceased.
Reason for quest: Figured it'd help her become more outgoing. Also, totally wants to be like a video game hero. (That last one she never mentioned to anyone. Ever.)
Status: Does well enough as a soloist, performing at various events to get enough money to provide for herself and her little brother.

"I have no idea... Isn't it awesome?!!?" she exclaimed.

The only thing Glitch loved more than finding odd items was trying to figure out what they were. But this one was so interesting she decided she couldn't wait. "Let's take it to my brother, I bet he can tell us what it is!"

She got behind Pine and started pushing him, eager to get there as fast as possible.

Pine looked amused and annoyed at the same time.

'Alright Alright, stop your pushing.'

'Race ya!'

He said as he run towards Glitch her home. While running he talked to Glitch.

'I can't stay long though, I have to go home early today.'




Meanwhile at the edge of the forest a big truck stopped and a bunch of people in black came out.
Nets, ropes and catching devices in hand.

The leader walked ahead. He had an evil smirk on his face.

'Boys and Girls, today is going to be a good day. I feel it in my bones.'

The other people smirked as well but didn't move.

The leader looked annoyed.

'Well don't just stand there! Move!'

And the group of black dressed people moved into the forest.

"No problem," she said, trying to keep up with him. "This won't take long."

Pine got through the enterance first with Glitch following close behind. She didn't mind losing the race and was just happy she was able to keep up.

"Hey, you two." Glitch's brother greeted them with a small nod before turning to Glitch. "You're not usually home until sunset, did something happen?"

"Yeah, I found something cool and was wondering if you'd know what it is." she explained, showing him the small box.

Pine looks happy he won the race. No time to dwell on that now though. Because there is this box that needs explaining.

While inside Pine nod's back to Glitch's older brother in greeting.

As Glitch hands over the box Pine moves close, also curious what it could be.

He waits for him to share what he knows about the object.

A fearfull expression crossed his face. "Where did you get this?"

"From the edge of the woods, why?" Glitch had never seen fear in her brother's eyes before. This must be something bad. she thought.

"The last time I saw something like this a bunch of Sylesties went missing from the area. It was before we came here when you were just a little hatchling. It belongs to a bad group of humans." He nudged the two outside.

"Pine, go home and tell your family to get somewhere safe. Glitch and I will warn the other Sylesties." and with that he ran off, leaving the two behind.

"Oh, um.. I'll see you later I guess?" Glitch muttered, still trying to understand what was going on and left to help her brother.

Pine looked confused.

'Ok I guess.'

He watched the 2 siblings run off.

He jumped up and ran outside, running as fast as he could. His ears flat against his head.
No time to enjoy it like he usualy does.

'Bad humans? Disappearing Sylesties?'' He thinks.

He passes the rock where he tackeld Glitch, jumping over a small stream, dodging trees as he goes.

No time to go slower. He had to warn his familie, even if he didn't exactly understood for what.

There, in the distance he could see his home. Almost there.

In a last dash he runs to the entrance of his home.

'Mom! Dad! Brother! " He yells

...Nothing...

He moves inside. Nobody home.

'What's going on mom at least is always home.''

He walks back outside, sniffing the area, he yells again. But again nothing.

He suddenly recals Glitch's brothers words 'a bunch of Sylesties went missing''

Oh no It couldn't be.

In a panic he started running around his home, yelling for his familie as he goes.

Then he sees it. Footprints, strange footprints he had never seen before. Longish with round edges. No toes. Next to the footprints lay somthing that looked like a torn net. Broken branches and signs of struggle.

He kept looking. And then he saw something red in a branch. He ran towards it.

It was a feather. A red feather, like the ones from his fathers talisman.

'No' he whisperd

'DAD! Please answer me!'

Suddenly he hears a laughing like sound, comming from above him.

It sounded nasty.

'Ghe ghe ghe, poor little Zolnixi, lost something did you?'

Pine looks up. The tears that where starting to form in his eyes where quickly dried by his paw.

'Who are you?, Show yourself?'

Out of the tree above him came a small Vorkid. Nasty creatures they where. He still rememberd the one he came across as a child.

The vorkid opend his nasty jaws, but showed no signs of wanting to strike. 'Lost something for shure you did, how clumsy to lose something so importand.'

'What do you mean?!' Pine demanded to know. 'Did you see what happend?' Have you seen a black a blue and a dark green Zolnixi? '

'Geh geh geh, Maybe I have maybe I haven't, does it matter, lost is lost and will not be found, Go back to your home little Zolnixi and forget.'

Pine grew angry, he groweld. 'Don't play games with me! Just tell me what you saw!"

After the vorkid said nothing Pine calmed himself. 'Please'

The vorkid took pity on the Zolnixi. Well as far a Vorkid can feel pity that is.

'A deal then, I get your home and I will tell you what I saw. The trees are not as comfortable as one would like to believe.'

'Fine deal now tell me. ' Pine answerd with no hessitation. His familie ment more then his home. They could always make a new one.

'Man in black, in groups they came, surrounded the home of the Zolnixi familie they did, nets and cages and darts and smoke. Trickery and stealth. Outside your 3 went, and trapped they where. Strong the black one was. 5 man 3 strong nets and 2 darts where needed to take him down. Gone they are with the man in black, lost and lost will they remain, never come back do the sylesties taken by man in black. Secret places. Find them you wil not. Geh geh geh.'

Pine froze. His familie gone. What was he supposed to do know?

'Which direction did they go!?'

'Geh geh geh, every direction little Zolnixi, Follow the path of distruction in the woods, and you will find them perhaps still here. But once outside the woods every direction they can go, lost from sight, is lost forever. '

Pine didn't hesitate. The moment he learned they might still be in the woods he followed the path of broken branches and footsteps. Maybe he would be on time.

Still tired from his dash earlyer he had troubles to keep going, his longs and limbs where burning.
He could feel the heavy beating of his heart against his chest. But he could'nt stop nor slow down.

Then he reached the edge of the forrest.

And he could see them.

Far away black dots moving away fast, to far away to fast, for him to reach them and to keep up. And he then saw the last spot dissapear in the horrizon. The nasty voice of the Vorkid echoed in his head 'Lost from sight, is lost forever.'

A sense of defeay and dispair, and grief overwhelmed him.
Pine crumbeld to the forrest floor and cried.

The sun still warm still shining on his face, the soft dirt of the forrest still under his paws, the fresh air still in his lungs.

It was the worst day ever for Pine.

The sun was setting as a large group of Sylesties gathered in the clearing in the woods used for meetings.

Glitch's brother walked over to the edge of the clearing where she sat on lookout. "Any sigh of them?"

She shook her head. "No but everyone else is here and I'm getting worried." Glitch hadn't seen Pine since they all left her house earlier that day.

"Go look for them, hopefully they just got lost. I'll wait here for you." He glanced at the sky for a moment. "It's getting dark so you should be safe. Humans don't seem to like the dark."

"Okay." Glitch said and set out to find Pine.

Pine had not moved from his spot. To tired and sad to move.

He had cried for hours until there where no more tears left.

Pine looked at the horizon again. It had gotten darker and colder outside.

Would he ever see them again? Could that nasty creature be right?

He felt his legs and paws where still tense from all that running.

Should he risk it? Should he run after them? He felt a bit better he could run for a short while, maybe just enough to reach them.

Who was he kidding, those humans must be miles away by now. All running blindly after them would acomplish was getting exhausted in unknown places. Open to harm and danger, not to mention the wheather and all alone. And if by some miracle he woul reach them, he would be to tired to help them. It would only lead to getting caught as well, and getting caught would not help his familie.

But he could not just stay here. Crying would not get them back, rushing into things would not get them back.
But staying definitly would not get them back. It's not like he has a house left to live in anyway.

No staying wont help.
So he will leave.

He would go after them and he would find them no matter what that nasty vorkid told him. Lost things can be found. Glitch found lost things all the time.

Glitch....

Leaving would mean leaving her as well. But it's for the best. He could not ask her to leave her only relative behind.

He looked at the horizon again. It would cool even more but not so cold he would not manage outside. It was summer after all.

Pine made up his mind. Shaken he stood up. His paws needing to find balance before he could walk again. He would walk until his paws where ready to run again, the he would run until he had to walk again. Food and other basic needs did not cross his mind. To shaken by all that happend.

Before he walked he looked back to the forest one last time. 'Sorry Glitch, I have to go but I'll come back one day. I promise.'

He could picture his return. He would be welkomed by a very pissed Glitch. A small smile appeard on his face. He could hardly wait.

And so Pine started his adventure. He moved is right front paw and placed his very first step outside of the woods he grew up in. His first step into adventure. Even if it did not feel that way.
