Val quickly rolled over in a crouch, she pounced forward but misjudged and ended up just barely brushing against Holt and landing on her back right behind the wolf.

Holt whirled around and pinned a hand on her fore head. "Gotchya. If this was a real fight you'd be out cold." He remarked.

Sonic waited for Kit by one of the old rope bridges, smoothing back his quills with a dignified demeanor.

Val huffed as she swatted his hand away and sat up, "But you would have a bunch of scratches to remind you not to mess with me." she said with a wide smirk.

Kit walked up to the hedgehog, "Been waiting long?" she asked with a chuckle.

"Mm, I doubt that." Holt chuckled, reclineing back against a tree.

"Well, yeah." Sonic remarked. "What kept ya?"

Val chuckled as she lay on her stomach, her arms folded in front of her with her chin sitting on her crossed arms.

"My wanting to make you wait." Kit said simply.

"Okay, okay, so say everybody was invited to a fancy dinner party. Who would get kicked out first?" Holt asked in an attempt to strike up a conversation.

"...Heh." Sonic chuckled. "Would it be immature of me to say you're still a bit of a fartface?"

Val thought for a moment, "Probably either Shadow, Sonic, or Me." she said very simply.

Kit glared at him, "I can always build a water gun and soak you through." she growled threateningly.

"Please do explain." Holt requested.

"Guns can't hit me," Sonic responded.

Val smiled, "Well, for Shadow it would be because he is fairly rude, Sonic because he wouldn't be able to sit around and cause absolute chaos, and me because I will most likely take some wallets and overall take over the food table and most likely cause a food fight."

Kit cocked an eyebrow, "I could always make it fast enough or I could just toss you into a kiddie pool filled with crabs."

Sonic flicked an ear. "Meh."

Holt chuckled. "Yeah, makes sense. Then again, I have a sneaky feeling Shadow's rude to just us."


(Okay, I read it. So, It's a good start, but it needs polish, especially reguarding Nick.

I get that Nick wants the sentient being he's imprisoned, harmed, repeatedly tranqued, and otherwise stressed out to trust him, but as a scientist trianed in his feild, he should have a basic knowledge of behavioral phycology. When a living creature (human or otherwise) is faced with a threatening situation, they develop a defensive response (Fighting in Maxine's case) and they remember the situation, so they know what to do if the situation arises again. If the situation is 'Humans in strange clothes are trying to hurt me/my friends' then of course Maxine is going to try to attack most all humans she sees. She doesn't need the wolves to 'turn her against them', because Nick already took care of that. I think he should've realized this sooner.

In that case, instead of Nick forcing her to 'trust' him and causing a dozen more problems in the process, he should send in another scientist (one Maxine has never seen before) to attempt to calmly meet up with her. Saftey precautions in place in case things go south, but send the guy in unarmed, no strings attatched, maybe offering her food or something to show he means no harm. It wouldn't fix all of his problems (It's highly unlikely Maxine will ever trust him specifically), but it would be a step in the right direction.

If Nick doesn't come to that conclusion on his on his own or is simply socially incompetent, have somebody else run it by him or do it themselves.

Honestly, Nick would be a much more interesting antagonist all around if he had good intent. Like, it sounds like he's trying mentaly scar Maxine for the heck of it. Is there anything to somewhat justify his actions? What does he hope to gain from this reasearch? Every villan has a motive; and the more noble the motive, the more interesting they are.

Aside from that and a few very minor nit picks, I think the story line is quite engaging, if a little fast. I like how quickly the wolves in the habitat trust her; it's like they know how she helped other wolves in the past. I also find it funny how the other scientists are just trying to do their jobs as Nick sorta snaps at them. Makes me wonder if they have a counciler on staff, heh. The way you introduced Maxine was very deus ex machina, and while I usually don't like that you make it work well!)
