Doesn't have to be a multi-word name, Atomic. For Tamed pets, I like names that have some connection to their traits, or to their Theme if they have one. For example, if a pet has a Carried or Hidden trait that I don't like, I often give it a name that I will connect to the idea of deception or lying, to remind me that the trait is there when I go to breed the pet.

And sometimes I pick a name just because I like the name or it describes the pet. For example, if you page back, you'll see that I picked the name "Malibu Sky" for a blue-and-white Qitari. It just so happens that Malibu is the name of that particular shade of blue.

I thought of naming the Maenad qitari stallion "Thyrsos," because of his horn. A thyrsos is a type of wand that the the historic maenads would carry. But I couldn't think of a comparable name for the mare.

Wow, that is very clever! My naming tactic is to look at the colors and think of things that sylestia reminds me of.

Tigershadow, I like your name for PurpleStarlightWolf's Faelora better than like the name I came up with for the same pet. I hope Purple agrees; it suits him so well I do not (much) mind losing the points for naming him.

NAMED

This Lovely Kelpari mare needs a lovely name--

She is now named "Dione." Thanx for the inspiration goes to Sevenblazes!

She has Carried Kelp Headdress and Bubbles. My other Lovely Kelpari are named "Bering Wolffish" and "Shoopiltee."

A Bering Wolf Fish is an ugly fish, but I picked the name because (1) they live in the Pacific Northwest, where I live, and (2) the Bering Wolf Fish is a devoted mate and parent. They mate for life, and the female and male share in caring for their nest of eggs. That seemed appropriate for a Valentine's Day pet to me.

On the other hand, a shoopiltee is the Shetland Islands version of the water-horse, or kelpie. Unlike most mythic water-horse creatures, the shoopiltee is more mischievous than mean.

So I don't exactly have a set pattern for naming Lovely Kelpari. Go nuts.

Hey, how about naming the pink Nixi with Shaman Feathers "Berlin"?

There's a long, involved story behind me coming up with that name, but it's late and I'm tired. PM or ping me if you want to know it--especially if you pick the name.

Starlight, how about naming this girl "Chrysocyon"? You could call her "Chrys" for short.

The word chrysocyon means golden dog, and she is golden. Moreover, she has Vis Maned Wolf, and the real world's maned wolf has the scientific name--you guessed it--chrysocyon.
Or, since real maned wolves are from South America, you could name her in Spanish, "Perra de Oro."

This girl makes me think of the Blue Bird of Happiness.

Then I wondered where the idea that the bird of being happy is blue had first come from. Turns out it's Chinese, as far as anybody knows. The bird was called qingniao, so I think "Qingniao" could be a good name for your girl.
You could also name her after real birds who have similar colors: "Violet Sabrewing" if she's going to be an adventuring/arena pet, or perhaps "Velvet Purple Coronet," if she isn't.
Finally, there's an old play about two children trying to find the Blue Bird of Happiness. They are aided by a fairy named "Berylune," and that has a nice sound to it.

How about naming the Lovely Kelpari after Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love? Aphrodite was even born from the sea, so it fits very well!

She was specifically formed from the bubbly foam, and my Kelpari has Carried Bubbles. And just as she arose on the sea foam, Sevenblazes, so too horses were made from foaming waves, and one of Aphrodite's animals, to call, protect, and control, was the horse. Why didn't I think of this!

However, I have discovered there are already 88 Sylesti named "Aphrodite," and two of them are Lovely Kelpari. But you have definitely inspired me to look in the right direction. I shall name her "Dione." Depending on which ancient source you use, Dione was (1) Aphrodite's mother, sea foam notwithstanding, (2) one of Aphrodite's alternate names, for she had many, or (3) one of the Nereids who hung out with Aphrodite. And there are only 10 Sylesti already named Dione, none of whom are Kelpari.

Thanx!
