Draw a sketch and paint with the lines at 20 % transparency, or draw an outline and colour over it.
There are probably better ways, but that's how I do them!

wow thanks! i watched a tutorial on utube and they just selected parts of the sketch and colored on another layer, I tried it and it turned out ok but I think your way will be a lot easier since selecting it gets bits outside the lines and it gets annoying to clean up.

Depends, I find my way doesn't work well at all with transparent backgrounds because I don't put any effort into the outlines. For all I know, your nyte might not be 100% opaque all the way! It is hard to tell because the bg is grey aha.
You can also use clipping layers, I tend not to use them though because my style's more messy and it makes them look unnatural.

oh, i use clipping layers quite a lot cause i can always go back and fix up some parts if needed but for simple shading i just use protect alpha. I put a lot of effort into outlines cause thats the only way i can color XD
