Shift flew back into his house, where his dad and mom were stomping through the door. Where were you!!??? Their minds yelled when they saw him, and Mom shook him and yelled. "Where were you?" Shift stammered, "Well, i-i wa-as watching San-sandstorm fight the, uh, vi-iper." dad guided him inside. "What viper? who's sandstorm?" Dragonbite viper? 'gasp' Shift looked down. "It was a dragonbite viper, and Sandstorm was that dragon who was handing out the posters, you know?" Mom gasped. "Did she get hurt?" Shift smiled awkwardly. "Thankfully, no. She also killed the viper." His parents sighed in relief.
"Shift," Dad said, "Mom wants to go to the rainforest to visit the nightwings." Mom smiles, "And i want you to come with me."

She walked inside her den and closed the door behind her. She then took off her necklace and put it inside a gator skin chest. She then heard a nock on the door, she sighed "come in" a scrawny female dragon poked her head in "message for Sandstorm, from the queen"
Sandstorm nodded "that's me" the scrawny female looked at her tallons nervously "I-I am h-here to t-tell you that y-you've been requested to g-go into queen Thorn's army, she would like to s-see you there in three days" Sandstorm's face turned pale. An oozing feeling of horror crept up her spine "A-army?" She clutched her head in her talons "no no no no no....."

Shift suddenly heard Sandstorm's thoughts. I have to go to the army?! No no no... please no! But i cant defy my queen! WHAT DO I DO??? He quickly smiled at mom. "Thats great! i would very much like to go! Can i first visit my friend?" Mom smiled. "Sure. glad you're making friends again." Shift rushed out the door and flew toward where Sandstorm's thoughts were coming from

She had not noticed the female dragon leave. She stumbled back and sat on her bed, lost in her thoughts. She had come to a decision "I have to go" she said to herself. She started to pack her camel skin pouch.

I have to go Shift keeps flying toward her thoughts.

After she was done packing she sat at her small desk and held her head in her hands and cried.

Shift flew towards a house, where Sandstorms thoughts were coming from. She was crying. He landed near the house and cautiously walked toward it

She then loaded her sword into a sheath in the pack. After she was done packing she walked outside with her bag over her shoulder.

Shift saw Sandstorm walk out of her house with a bag over her shoulder. "Hey!" He called out. "I never seen anyone kill a dragonbite viper like that! thanks for doing it so that the other dragons wouldn't get killed. Hey where are you going?" He tilted his head at her bag
