I decide that I'll keep picking grass, and pretend to be deaf. Maybe they'll leave me alone, it's unlikely they know sign language, and I can keep up the charade if they do, as...nevermind. Keep a straight face, don't let them think anything other than what I want them to.

I blink, like I'm processing their words. I cock my head and then wave my hands over my ears, shaking my head afterward. I look at them and smile winningly, trying to get them to trust me. For some reason, others trust the weak ones, I've noticed.

Who are you? He asked you in sign language.

I sign quickly, I'd learned ages ago, but I knew plenty of words. I'm Hazel, who are you two?
