"Mom? What's wrong?" She went up to her on the porch, worried something bad happened.

She hesitated. "There was an...accident," she began. "Your father had to take Ethan to the hospital this afternoon." She paused again, blinking rapidly, and took a short breath. "Beau attacked him."

"Is Ethan ok?" She asked worried.

"Yes." Mom gave her a tired smile. "Very shaken up, but nothing serious, thank God."

"Good..." She mumbled.
"I... never thought he would do that..." She said to herself out loud.
'How did that happen...' she asked herself.

Yeah, it was very strange. Beau adored Ethan; he got upset if anyone even scolded her half brother. She'd seen Ethan yanking on Beaus fur, ears, and tail, and the dog barely responded with a lick. She'd seen Beau take Ethans sleeve and gently tug him back from the driveway. Their German shepherd might be a terror to squirrels and deer, but hed never even shown teeth to anyone in the house.

Yeah so she was very confused... She just kept asking herself.
'Why and how... did this happen...'

"Luke saw Beau run up the stairs, then heard Ethan screaming. When he got to his room, he found the dog dragging Ethan across the floor. His face was badly scratched, and there were bite marks on his arm."

"That's unusual.... Beau would never do that..." She said, trying to make sense of the situation.

Her eyes filled with tears "We cant have a dangerous dog running around, Lia," she said "If Ethan asks, tell him that we found Beau another home." She took a deep breath. "Its for the safety of the family. Dont blame your father. But, after Luke brought Ethan home, he took Beau to the pound."
